I wasn't riding, I just needed to wash out Wiley's gash and then apply atiseptic. Roly doesn't come when I go riding.
I asked my vet(who is also my boss) and he said it isn't enough for any kind of pain killers or anything like that. He said if Roly is happy with a big walk every second day, then so be it. Plus, its not fair on Lady having to go for shorter walks just for Roly, and if you can honestly tell me you would go for one long walk and one short walk everyday, then you're amazing!
I would have put Wiley somewhere, but we were surrounded by paddocked horses and the coridoor(sp?) paddock. Which is where I ended up letting him go(its still big).
I would have just left Roly, except I didn't want him to get bored and attempt to make his way back home.

And whats double-ley annoying is Saturday and todays visit, Roly was back to normal chasing Wiley round the paddock, I guess it was an off day...

    Hi Aussiemyf

I go for two long walks with dog every day and today it was not enough. But I would be pushed if I had to walk more than one dog with separate walking requirements. I base the problem with long walks and sore joints on my own body's reaction to post hockey games, but I'm not a dog or a horse so it might be different for them.

Most horse agistment places I've used have had small yards somewhere to keep horses that eat too much out of the main paddocks. Interesting that yours doesn't.

I was just guessing at things that might be causes and possible solutions but didn't really have enough information to make informed guesses. I think with what you had, making sure Roly wasn't left on his own was the best option.

    I appreciate the help Hyacinth

As for not having smaller paddocks. We are on a 50 acre aggistement property. There are two huge shared paddocks on each end of the propery, and the rest are private. Then theres all driveway paddocks, jumping paddocks, and one or two small riding paddocks.
The riding paddocks, round yard and wash bay, are all in the middle so people from each end, each gate can get to it fairly.
At the moment Wiley is in a shared because his private has been demolished of grass and I was spending an absolute fortune on hard feed. I could have put him back in his 2 acre shared paddock, but after him running away, I wasn't keen on that idea
