But it doesn't matter if your dog is Pit Bull, Amstaff, looks Pit Bull, looks Amstaff, is a cross breed, is a Staffy, it doesn't even matter if its a bully breed.
If you're dog hurts anyone, you and your dog will get in a lot of trouble. You want advice, and advice has been given.
For the safety of your dog and everyone else, muzzle her.
    Well said, end of story!!! {hopefully}

Look guys, move above the petty battles that go on between people on dog forums. Chrissie knows more on BSL than many people I know and she has the resources to assist people.

    Thanks for the advice EVERYONE!

I will keep her muzzled in public from now on and I will find somewhere that can check what breed they both are for me.

    Cheers

I would say the parents were the irresponsible people in this situation. Never would I ever touch a dog that I didn't know, let alone let my children chase one around a pole.

Sucks that it's had to come to this because there are some silly people like this out there but I do think you're doing the right thing by using a muzzle in the future.

But that just isn't as true as you and 100's of others think.
It has nothing to do petty squabbles Anne.

It took me 40 minutes to get through this whole thread (downloadng security suite) but finaly I think have got to the end.

OK,the 22 Point Checklist is not utilised in other States and was discredited in QLD.
Breed ID and Temp testing does not happen state to state like NSW.
An unregistered Amstaff x Pit Bull is simply a Pit Bull.

Those that can look at Bailey (including your vet) and say she is not Pit Bull , need to have their eyes checked and trying to tell you she isn't is not doing the dog any favours.Be aware of what she is and what you could be possibly up against.

You have decided on the right thing to do in my opinion

I am sure there are people who will tell you I know nothing about Pugs too, in fact Iam 100% positive of it.

Anyway, I have offered two different authorities on it and have offered my advise. If I had a problem with BSL, I would contact either of these.

Is it just me or has this become a point the finger at the breed debate that we say we so feverously hate?

I think the issue here is that you cannot control all variables. In this circumstance, it is the people around you. I am forever amazed at the plain stupidity of people around dogs. Sure, a parent showing the stated behaviour does not deserve to have children. It is not the child's fault that no one has ever taught it how to act appropriately around dogs (read: not to approach strange dogs!). Unfortunately there is an abundance of ignorant people out there, and you can't trust them with your dog. Unfortunately our society and the law favour dumb people over smart dogs, so you need to protect your dog from dumb people. You can do this a number of ways. One is to never leave your dog unsupervised in public, another is to muzzle your dog in public. I have encountered stupid people around my dog and now will never leave him in public. I would be reluctant to put a muzzle on my dog for fear of being abused of being out in public with a 'dangerous dog.'

I wouldn't say you were irresponsible nor naive about your dog, just maybe a little naive about people but don't worry I think we all tend to be! I come from the country where everyone has a dog so people are quite conscious of how to act themselves and how to educate their children about dogs. Since moving to the city, I have found people far less predictable or relyable around my dog.

It's sad the way things are, but best not to risk the life of your dog no matter how even it's temprement!
