Default Dalmatians and Where to Get One.

    Not yet that is
Im just starting to do some researh, I won't be buying till Roly's gone.
I've found some really great breeders but anyway heres a few questions...

-I just want a 'normal' (but purebred) Dalmatian, but it seems the only place I can get one is a breeder. I don't need the titles, confo etc. or is this the only place I'll be able to find one?
-How much do you estimate a Dallie would cost? I know it depends on the breeders but an average number would be nice.

When(if) I do infact get one, I plan to do puppy school and possibly fun stuff like agility which I never got to do with Roly and Lady.
So yeah, im new to all this non-shelter buying so any, any, any advice is incredibly helpful

Im so devastated the only Dalmatian member doesn't come on anymore!

I think you are in NSW? Try the club rescue.

The Dalmatian Club of NSW Inc.

A friend of mine in Vic. got a lovely 7 month old boy through the Victorian Rescue. From memory I think she paid about $250 for him about three or four years ago.

If you want a pup rather than an adult it's still best to go through the club. Have a look at Dallie pups for sale at DOL and that will give you a rough idea of the current price. If you get to know a few breeders by going to shows you will often find they are a bit more flexible with their prices, particularly if you only want a pet.

I like Dalmatians. Temperament wise they remind me a lot of Boxers. Mad, bad and bouncy as youngsters but always lots of fun.

I have often seen Dalmatians under the rescue section of Dogzonline.com.au, Myf. Not all the time, but yeah, often.

Im actually in Victoria DH, but thanks so much anyway.
I would prefer a puppy as I havent had one for over 11 years. I miss the puppy breath.

Thanks DA, Im off to check that out too

I thought the Dalmatian would be a really cool breed. They're original and you hardly ever see them. I've only had to nurse 1. In my research its said they have a whole heap of energy which will be great for a romp with Lades.

I do feel a little bad about looking this up when Roly's not even gone yet....

Ah well, if you want a puppy I don't know how you're gonna find one other than from a reputable breeder. These days though, I find breeders prices for some breeds very competitive with rescue dog prices anyway.

There's a breeder in SA called "TopSpot" they also board. And there is another nutty breeder (according to someone who has a dalmation from her) somewhere north of Adelaide.

If a dalmation pup comes out with "blurry" spots or otherwise not quite to breed standard, the breeders are very happy to find a good home for the puppy, usually on condition you desex it. And those are much cheaper than the competiton quality puppies.

They also appear in the rescue places or pounds or shelters, so you might want to check with them on a regular basis. That's where my neighbours got their liverspot dalmation.

There is a victorian branch of dalmation rescue and they advertise on petrescue from time to time.

And my family like to overlap our dogs, ie get a puppy while the original dog is still strong enough to help train it.

Yeah ive been doing lots of research so I know all about the 'patches' vs. 'spots'
I will check out the shelters, but I was really hoping for a puppy, and being a less common breed, you don't see that many, especially the puppies.

I have two dogs, so when Roly goes, I'll have Lades (and don't tell Roly, but Lady would be a much better mentor)
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

Dalmatian Club of Victoria - Rehousing of older Dalmatians

    There's one on this site...

PS: the RSPCA and AWL don't often advertise their puppies on their website, you have to go out there often, make friends with the admin staff and get them to call you when one comes in...

    Ok thanks heaps!
I wont be getting one till Roly's gone(which could be ages away) but its really nice to have everything sorted.
That boy on the website is gorgeous, but I really am looking for a puppy(like, small puppy).
Maybe im setting my age standard too high...

Well if it's ages, I'd be visiting the dalmation shows or joining the dalmation club and making friends with the breeders...
