He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
    A Dogs Soul
Every dog must have a soul, somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place, where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul, the comfort he must seek.

He'll love, tho'he is unloved, and he'll serve tho'badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away the times when he's abused.

Altho' his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog an understanding Soul!

    Beautiful. Thank you.

Here are a few from my collection.

    A strange thing:

    We teach

    temperance to dogs

    and cannot

    teach it to men..

    ..La Fontaine..

A dog is a smile and a wagging tail.

What is in the middle doesn’t matter.

    ..Clara Ortega..

A dog is the only thing

    on this earth

    that loves you

    more than he loves himself.

    ..Josh Billings..

A dog is not “almost human”

and I know of no greater insult

    to the canine race

than to describe it as such.

The dog can do many things

    which man cannot do,

never could do and never will do.

    ..John Holmes..

    SBT Peom..

I'm a little Staffordshire Bull Terrier, it was from Stafford where I came,
whether black or white, young or old, I'll love you all the same.

There are some bad ones amongst us, with that I will agree,
but when they do act badly, don't let that reflect on me.

There maybe fighting in my history, but those days for me are long gone,
after 200 years, and being well loved, love is really all I long.

I may be strong and powerful, with muscles just like Popeye,
with a grin to match, and love to play catch, I wouldn't hurt a fly.

One thing all I ask for, is when you hear my name in vain,
don't tar me with the same brush, as we weren't all raised the same.

If you got to know me, if you don't already do,
then what you'll find, is I'm really quite kind, and have lots of love for you.

So yes I am a Staffordshire, bold, fearless and the rest,
but when it comes to fun, with love and loyalty, Stafford's really are, the best.

Will you help me unpack..... So sad

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked up in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget,
There is so much to carry - so much to regret.

    Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss;
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage, will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
    And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
    Will you still want me?

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
    "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew,
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me
