Nice little thread Judge - cool to hear some of the nice things we all have to say about our pooches. I really enjoyed reading everyone's words .. beautiful.

I thought I would include a 'creed' if you want to call it that, which I wrote for Lola a while back (but which applies to Zep now too) .. I did it after hearing an army style cadence on a military parade ground. Anyways, it was a bit of a joke to follow a military style 'creed' when I started, but I do read it and mean it very much from the heart. Enjoy.

    MY DOG
This is my dog. There are many like her, but this one is mine.

My dog is my best friend. She is my life. I must master her as I must master my life.

My dog, without me, will lose her direction. Without my dog, I will lose my direction. I must lead her honestly and love her very true.

My dog knows that she can count on me. Not just for the food I feed her and the love I give her. I know it's the giving of my all in every way that really counts.

I know I can count on my dog. Not just for the companionship she provides me and the loyalty she accords me. It's the giving of her all in every way that really counts.

My dog is my family, even as my brother or sister, because she is my life. Thus, I will love her as my family.

I will learn her weaknesses and her strengths. I will know her every part and movement and protect her against anything in this life. I will train her and exercise her and make her happy and content - I will put the needs of her beside mine and keep us healthy and strong.

We will become forever part of each other and forever that will be.

Before my dog, I swear this creed.
    That's Beautiful SH

they have such a bad reputation due to "attacks" made by pit bulls however a lot of the time in is purely a lack of mistaken identity!

As pit bulls have such a wide standard on how they can look a lot of dogs are describes as pit bulls whether they are or not.

It also has a lot to do with the way the media portrays them!

    but they really are 's

Thanks Judge. Must admit, if someone asked me to choose a family dog, breeds of the bull terrier would come to mind straight away, not last.

As always, it is the people that own them, surely?

Good post judge and agree totally.

The media has alot to answer IMO, most people believe the hype that comes with a trashy piece of journalism, and as judge said, most times its mistaken ID, but hey, it will sell news papers, so why do some research that might prove otherwise.

I have a good example somewhere, will try and find it.

Most people who meet Scoobs for the first time often have the reaction of being very stand offish, not sure if hes going to rip there throats out or not, now i wonder where they get this assumption from???
On leaving, he gets cuddles and kisses and people leave with a positive image from first hand experience.

I agree. I have only met a couple and they were great dogs. As with any breed there can be rogues, bad and irresponsible owners. It seems like they are usually the ones reported in the media, far more often other breeds.

If I was to be swayed by media hype and had a set against the breed, there would be no way that River would be going to Chop and Loppy.

I have to say that it is all about the owner!

my girls are the most beautiful loving companions and I have had on more than one occasion people comment that my girls should be a "representative of the nature of a true pit bull" (Am Staff w/o papers lol)

My girls have been raised with nothing but love and appreciation therefore they appreciate me in return by showing love, being loyal and "guarding" me and my possessions. This meaning that I have never had to "train" them to attack or bite etc and neither of them ever had but i do know that if put in the situation where someone was a threat to me, they would protect me to no end.

    They really are angels

Well I can understand what you are all saying.

For example, a recent survey done showed that in Brisbane City alone the majority of humans being bitten were mainly coming from the GSD. That **** me, naturally.

They failed to mention that the % of people who owned GSD's was massive compared to any other breed owned %. Also take into account how many were GSD crosses (very possible) and the calibre of the owners who buy a Shepherd with no idea of their character, hereditary traits or needs.

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me......

Oh, this is so beautiful, it made me cry! I didn't know I was such a sook. my 15yo border passed away last year, and this reminded me so much of him.
