Default Any News on the Pup Devil's Advocate?

I'm finally home, and my fingers have finally recovered from typing that massive post on your 'calling newfienut' thread (I was fearing RSI the next day!)

Any news on your pup? I'm guessing you have gone for a Newf judging by your gorgeous profile pic? Have you made any requests (black, brown, landseer etc)? And how are you going for names?

I always thought I'd have animals with exotic names (my horse is Sakhi) but I was inspired to call George George after I met my friend's dog 'Garry.' I just thought it was hilarious that everytime she called him at the park she sounded like she was calling after her accountant! Anyway, George seems to suit fine.

I had George boarding with his breeder while I was away and she did some grooming. I was a little shocked when I saw him, he looks like a different dog! His clipped ready for summer and is looking rather poodle like! I've attached some before and after photos. I must admit he isn't usually clipped this extensively, but his coat just got so unmanageable and was mattered and revolting. Lesson: stay on top of your grooming!!

Hi Newfienut - been waiting impatiently for your return. Hope you enjoyed your holiday firstly.

My puppy is now 17 days old. I have arranged to visit the litter this Sunday, as the breeder we were talking about previously only lives about 1/2 hour away from us! Talk about lucky. So my family and I will be able to pop up and see them every chance we get. I have been in communication with the breeder a lot. We actually have a bit in common, and she is just so down to earth and friendly, so I'm thrilled.

ROLL ON SUNDAY for my first hold of these puppies!!!

They are all Landseers. If I get a male we have agreed to call him Wolfgang. If a female, the name chosen is Inca.

Thanks for the advice. I have been researching the breed till my head hurts and my brain is fried from overload. But that can only teach me so much - real life experience from Newfie owners such as yourself is the best way to learn IMO.

Shall keep on top of the grooming. I plan to have the family (not just me!) groom our Newfie once per evening. That way he/she will get used to it right from the start, and also the rest of the family will be involved and learn how to groom this breed properly.

Hopefully I will bring back some photos on my camera after our visit on Sunday.

Also Newfienut, looked into pet insurance. Remmeber somewhere on a thread you mentioned it could be worth my while to at least consider it?

Considered it, lookedc in to it, doing it - definately. It's not much to do, but gosh for the peace of mind with such a fast growth and huge animal, yes i feel it should be done.

Yes, pet insurance is definatley worthwhile! I had a friend whose dog got bitten by a snake. They took it to the vet and said they had expected that it was a snake bite and she disagreed and gave it meds for something else! Overnight the dog got progressively worse as you can imagine, and ended up in doggy hospital for over two weeks and a vet bill so big they had to sell one of their investment properties! (I think they have since gone after the first vet with legal action).

I had no idea that you could get a whole litter of Landseers- I thought they were quite rare and you usually got only one or two in a litter. I asked for Landseer or if not, the male with the most white out of George's litter.

It's great that you get along well with the breeder- my breeder has offered so much support over the last 21 months, don't know where I'd be without her!

Seems like there's been a bit of an influx of Newfy people on the forum lately, so hopefully you will get opinions and info from a diverse range of people. I am certainly obsessed but George is my first Newfie so I still have a lot to learn as well!

Yes Landseer are the Black and White Patchy colour. Not sure where they get the name from but apparently in some places they are considered their own breed!

Ahh cheers. Hmmm I wonder if they've got any genetic proof of that?
