Why not a short haired Chihuahua? We always had them growing up (along with our Staffy). No grooming, no exercising, not big eaters and can share your bed with out hogging it lol!!!

You have alot of breed choice from your rundown of needs and wants.
Hi All, I am hoping someone can help me as I am quite lost at the moment.

Two and a half years ago I lost my darling mini foxi quite suddenly to kidney failure and had to put her down. (She was a month shy of turning 16).

The loss was quite sudden, as she was happily running around outside that afternoon, only to get sick in the early evening and was gone by that night. She had been my baby since she was given to me when I was 12 and I couldnt contemplate getting another dog without feeling guilt over her.

I am soon to be living on my own and feel the time is right to have another dog. I am hoping someone could help me with a breed type

    Lifestyle:

    I work between 830 - 5.30
I will be home at night and the majority of the weekend (I'll only be out for a few hours anyway!)
I am happy to take it for a daily walk
    I have a backyard of roughly 500m2
It can be an inside or outside dog
I'd rather not spend too much time grooming

What I would like in the dog:
    Something Loyal
Something that will love me as much as I love it!
Something to make me feel "protected"
May need to be able to live with a cat

I would value anyone's help in this.
Do you like all dog types or do you have a preference?
say terriers, bull breeds, sighthounds, scenthounds etc.

I don't know Beau...Candy would tear this place apart out of boredom if I worked all day, 5 days per week. I have enough trouble keeping her occupied while I work at night on the w/ends (16 hours), she gets up to mischief !!!

I tried your quiz myf and my first selection was a field spaniel and my 80th was a whippet - guess I should have done the quiz before I got my dog! Right - off to google "field spaniel"!

Yeah but from breed types its easier to choose from quallities, say a bassethound compared to a beagle (scent), an airedale compared to an Aussie terrier,(terrier) etc.

I think it would help generate a short list because qualities of dogs vary greatly between breed types, and then vary from breeds within that chosen type.

I am DISGUSTED in you puggerup! Beagles are the second best breed in the world! But only cause my parents have been breeding them for the last 20 years!

What about something in a short haired adult rescue dog? My rescue gets on well with the cat - though she wants to kill him
