Gees Occy, how many have you managed to upset with what you see as legitimately forthright answers when so many take them as abusive?
I was embarrassed when you joined the forum Di. Having the 3rd degree slammed on you for where you lived...I mean ...FFS, who's bussiness is that anyway???
I'm glad you can take it as a 'nothing'. I can't...it's insulting.

I am not posting to re hash anything. Seeing though that so many feel the same about posting style, wording, I wonder if reconsidering that there could be a better way to do it may be considered.

She's ment to be an educator to our children...a teacher! I find her attitude to "parents' and pet lovers to be quite fowl. I'd report her if she was a teacher at my childs school.

I too have felt attacked by Occy. I have nothing against you, and I think you do have knowledge to share, but if its not your way, then its wrong. I think you have a tough time seeing it from another point of view.

Oh, and I see the members of this forum as more than opinions. I see their personality and literally think of you all as a family.
    But hey, thats me Occy.

Perhaps that's my problem I see everyone as a kind of family.

    Hmmm food for thought.

    Ah

    I see a problem here.

If I or Occy (or any of us direct and tactless people) question someone's ideas or even call the idea stupid or crap, someone takes it personally as if we are calling them not the idea crap.

Like they are their ideas. So they get all upset if anyone else thinks an idea of theirs is wrong. And having evidence to back up it up, just makes it worse.

Dear sensitive people - you are not your ideas, please don't confuse a challenge of your idea, with an attack on you. And note there are more than one or two of you.

I for one, like Occy's directness. And Occy doesn't agree with everything I write and has said so, I don't feel attacked by that. Some of my ideas deserve to be challenged.

And while what Occy does when she's not on the forum is none of my business - well unless she posts about it here... I think people like her would make the best teachers. They're a little bit scary but they're direct and totally consistent and while they might say things (usually the truth) you don't want to hear, that reflects more on you than them. Our best obedience instructor is like this. And it does freak some sensitive souls out but her methods work the best, totally consistent and immediate. She's not attacking the dog owners, she's correcting their methods and making them more consistent, which helps their dogs.

The fact that she's blunt and to the point - just means she'd be useless/miserable as a politician or a diplomat. I don't see why some of you are insisting that we need to be diplomatic and super considerate all the time. Our dogs don't expect it. In fact with them, it's better if we're direct and immediate.

Somewhere else in here, someone suggested we spend too much time picking on each other and not discussing what's best for our dogs. But the most heated discussions come directly from people expressing opposing ideas on what is best for our dogs.

And yet another person suggested that ganging up on one poster was bad. And what are some of you doing to Occy? Nasty and shame on you. And just because it's water off a duck's back - doesn't make it ok. Then again is it "ganging up" if more than one person expresses the same idea? As long as we stick with, as Occy said, and Ozeymum failed to understand, with discussing/challenging/supporting/disputing a person's ideas and actions/behaviours and not the attacking person themselves - there shouldn't be a problem. Shouldn't be but sometimes there still is.

There is a profound difference between
"your idea is stupid" and "you are stupid"
of course it is slighty better to say
"why do you think that?" or "I disagree with your idea"
but sometimes the reaction is exactly the same - because some people act as if they are their ideas. I suspect these people are angry/upset a lot of the time.

PS is my age is showing when I use PS (Post Script) instead of ETA (Extra Text Added)?

Who says you and Occy, (and im sure others) are the ones to judge how good or bad our advice is?
