Who's to say that they are breeding right now? There are always circumstances and situations that we do not know of unless we are told. I agree that perhaps KJ's guardian or career should come onto the site for a chat. Remember, information can be lost between the parent and the posts that are typed. I don't believe anyone should be condemned as this girl has just because some people do not believe her. Don't like the posts? Don't read them then.

There is a fair bit of variation within the autism spectrum. There are some things that all have in common - eg social ineptness - ranging from just leave me alone, to I want to be friends but I'm crap at it.

Slow learning is not related to the Autism spectrum itself - but more related to intelligence - the sort that can be measured by IQ tests. So you get some extremely quick learners - with no social skills - who can potentially become brilliant scientists (or whatever their field) - totally focussed on their work and oblivious or uncaring about the social/emotional cost of this. Some of them find socially adept helpers to promote their work, some of them learn basic presentation skills that allow them to present their work but are a bit at a loss when it comes to drinkies to celebrate their book publication.

And then there are the Autistic kids that are not adept with words - especially in early childhood. And it is really hard to teach them anything - because how do most of us do it - with words. But it's not impossible. Temple Grandin was/is one of these. So they would seem like slow learners, but that wouldn't be strictly true - it would just be that a method that works hasn't been found.

And then there are the Autistic kids that are - to be blunt - stupid. The really stupid ones wouldn't be using a computer at all. I'm not sure how it goes with the medium stupid ones but you could be right about what they try to do to fit in. Personally I think the nature of Autism makes telling lies difficult. Maybe that's the trouble, they lie because they think that's what they need to do and what they see other people doing but they're crap at that too, so people just despise them more.

When I'm worried about fitting in, I tend to withdraw and get really quiet, I don't try to bullsh*t my way through it - perhaps because I know that only makes things worse.

I agree with you there, Hyacinth. Their parents assumed that they were slow learners because they learned things slowly- but the fact that teaching in words to those that are inept with words is an acceptable answer for just why that is. Thanks for clearing that up

Myf, I'm afraid I don't know much about horses, so much of that thread went way over my head However, one thing I wanted to ask, is why is she considered a liar just because she said she's been riding horses since she was two? I've been drawing since I was two or so... does that make me a liar? It is quite possible that her parent's put her on horses or rode with her at that age.

It seems to me that people are actually looking for reasons to call her a liar. Her helmet came off and they're not designed to. Well, perhaps it was unclipped because she was being lazy? I know I don't clip up my helmet when riding my bike when I'm just riding up the road.

Remember we're talking to someone who obviously cannot express herself as eloquently as we'd like. That does not make her false. Her original post in the horse thread seems credible enough for me (I, too thought it was a story when I first read it). But someone who is unsure of the written language is undoubtedly going to make mistakes in her wording (eg. the "to be continued" at the end).

As for the horse breed and whatnot (I know nothing about horse breeds ), but why is it not acceptable that that is what they were told? I believe she said that they were told this is what the horse was, or they did a search of it after the previous owner said something. If that is what she was told- how the hell is she going to know any different? If she is as unsure of language as she appears to be- how is she going to try and find out for herself exactly what it is?

It may seem like I am trying to find excuses for her. I'm not trying to at all. I just have experience with people who are unable to express themselves properly when writing. Calling her a liar because you cannot understand her, or because you cannot understand that she may indeed have mental problems- is just not fair.

She made up a breed. Thats right, it doesnt even exist. She told us what 'breed' it was, then later said its sire was a MC winner. AKA, a Thoroughbred. She never said it had TB in it thet first time she told us its breed. Why would a Melbourne Cup winner be bred with a mare to produce a foal like that?

And I don't think you can compare drawing to riding a horse.

But you see what I'm saying there? Perhaps I should have said quad biking?

As I said, I do not know horse breeds. Did your conclusion that it was a made-up breed factor in the fact that she later said she spelled it incorrectly and that's the closest she could get it? I'm honestly curious

Again, how do you know that that's not what she was told it was? I think it's been said before, but breeder's do lie ;D How can anyone here prove that she is lieing?

My cousins chat to me over e-mail every now and again, and it is often very hard to understand them. A lot is "lost in translation", so to speak- and their replies often end up looking like one of KJ's posts, yet when you talk to them over the phone, they know exactly what they mean.

She said the horse was abandoned in a paddock so she bought it for $1000, so how do they have any idea about its breeding?

She says the horse is 9 years old, yet the 'sire' is 13 years old. A four year old MC winner producing foals at that age!? (Its a gelding anyway, so this is pointless)

I can see how she got hargeren instead of Hanavarian... except she said not one little bit to even relate a little bit to a Thoroughbred.
Choppa deciphered it and apparently its Hanovarien X warmblood X thoroughbred X stock horse X arab. Warmbloods and Stock horses arnt arnt breeds, they're catogories.

I know its hard because you dont have much idea on horses, but believe me, its a lie. Im not gonna pick on someone with a disability (Im close friends with someone who has a 6 year old child with autism).
If she can make up such a story with this, and im we're finding faults with her dog, then it isnt looking good...
Look, im happy for her too hang around, and I could probly ignore the posts, but I don't want you, or anyone else having a go at me or the others for not believing her 100%.

I'm not trying to have a go at you, Myf In my case, I only said what I said because I believe that calling her stupid, etc. was uncalled for, regardless of whether or not she is telling the truth. No one has to believe her, but no one should belitte her when they are quite capable of using the ignore function or pressing back.
