Default Any Allergy Sufferers Out There?

    Meaning as in your dogs!

Mine is allergic to most dairy products apparently (& a couple of other things), so I am being very careful with his diet to ensure nothing is given that may set off his allergy.

I'm curious to see how many other owners out there have dogs with adverse reactions to certain foods (or anything else for that matter.) I think it could be interesting to see what they are, and how people deal with it etc...

yeah my shep is allergic to some sort of plant i cant work out what yet pretty sure its a grass but it makes her eyes run and she gets scabby and sore inner ears=( i think she might not tolerate foods high in fat either because when shes on canned dog food she gets diarrhea pretty bad, but i heard that fat intolerance in sheps is common because they have issues with their pancreas ??? not sure tho

    Hi Laura,

Yes Zed gets the ear infections from dairy products, if it's only mild then it won't travel to the actual canal and he'll have the inflamed redness all around the upper flap of his ears. He's 3 years old so the breeder was able to give me a list of all the products that have appeared to affect him so far. Tomato paste/sauce etc can also flare it up. At a guess perhaps it's too acidic for him to tolerate. No probs for me, that one, as I hate tomato sauce or paste!

I wonder what plant or grass your dog is affected by? Have you tried trial and anihilation at all? What have you used for his ears? Zed's previous vet always used panalog ointment for a minor flare-up.

PS: Not sure about their pancreas? I believe they can be susceptable to bloating, so my boy is fed two meals per day, not just one main big one.

    Hi DA..

my boy Floyd has only ever had 1 type of allergy to what we thought was the freshly layed turf in our back yard..but turns out it wasn't the turf at all, it was one of he's new blankies ( which now has been thrown out in the bin), as for treatment vet prescribed the usual steroid based antihistamine pills, i bathed Floyd in pinetarsol wash & used Aloveen medicated dog wash, rash disappeared in a few days. So now its no more rash for Floyd...

As for food allergy, Floyd don't have them thank goodness, but in saying that Floyd isn't fed any type commercial dog foods or dog treats such as liver strips, pigs ears etc either, in which can cause allergies in some dogs, so i couldn't say if he would even have reaction to them either, not that i'm even going to try to feed him any commercial dog food product.... Floyd's treats are either fresh fruit or vegies, chicken necks or dried roo tails.
