Thread: How Long Will You Leave Your Dog Alone For?

  1. #1

Question How Long Will You Leave Your Dog Alone For?

I know many of us have to work and get out and about but if I am late or have to go out I sometimes feel guilty about leaving my two dogs at home (particulary when they start scratching up the carpet!)

They have a warm and dry place, water, food, toys the whole deal but still I feel guilty....I am curious on everyone' elses view on whats the longest you will leave your dog(s) alone for?

    Hi Vellela
Most days mine are on their own (inside) for 2-3 hrs.
I work from home so I'm with them alot of the time, this is also the reason why I got my 2nd pooch because untill now I was at work for the whole day.
When I was not working from home and only had Misi, i'd drop her off at my mums everyday (doggy daycare ) as she's only 1 street away.
They get left on their own 5-6 hrs on weekends - not every weekend though.
I get the guilts too. I feel better now that there's 2 of them though, i do take them with me to most places i go too.

Mine have been left for up to 12 hours and sometimes a tad over this. I can't leave it too much longer than 12 hours however as Monte needs to be medicated for his epilepsy every 12 hours.

They have each other for company and we ususally always have at least one other rescue and they have a dog door so that they can keep out of poor or overly hot weather.

My dogs have each other for company so when i leave them i don't feel so bad. The longest I have ever left them is about 8 hours.

When I got Taya from the shelter they said the longest she was left alone at her old home was for 4 hours. I have found this is about her comfort limit. Of course she is left alone longer than that but I feel bad. The longest has been about 9 hours when mum & dad have been away and I had to work. Poor thing is sooooo excited when I get home!

I'm going to feel sorry for her when I move out. Atm there is someone home most of the time (living with m&d & me being a uni student). That's one of the reasons I would like to get another dog.

She is so good though - almost never digs holes and if she does it's because we've been out for ages so I can't blame her for that. And she musn't bark because my neighbor says she hardly ever hears her.

I work nights so mine are alone for nearly 10 hours, 4 nights a week. My home is always open so they can go outside in the fenced house yard or stay in. Having 9 in my pack, they have plenty of company.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.

Well im lucky that Chloe can come with me to work and will continue to do so until i find a new job mid next year...

However when uni starts she will be left alone, but i am planning on asking mum to babysit her or putting her into k9 daycare which is only up the road!

Weekends apart from shopping etc, she comes everywhere, or should i say WILL as we've only had her for one weekend.. But everyone has been well informed of the rules as she is like my 2nd child
