Forgot to mention that my little bichon x comes to work with me. The residents love him.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.

Mine are left for a maximum of 6 hours. Sometimes if I am going to be later, I feel very anxious and have to hurry home. Pepsi doesn't care much how long she is left alone but Mimi frets after 4 hours. Before leaving for work, I ensure she has had her morning exercise and then I make sure she has eaten something. I still feel bad. A friend suggested I get a camera put in and watch them on my mobile phone to see they are alright.

I could leave my previous dog a Maltese/Westie/Bichon male ,alone for 10 hours inside as he could control his urine for that long, but with my present dog a Chihuahua/Jack Russel female I would not leave her for more than 5 hours before geting worried

I work from home and when I go out I can usually take puppy dog with. She's quite happy to sit in a shaded car for a few hours too - handy for winter hockey (I can usually still see the car and hear her and after the game she can run round on the grass field).

I've left her in the house for up to 8 hours. I feel since she can go overnight for 12 hours or more that she might last longer in the day time without needing to go to the toilet. But I haven't left her for that long.

I've got mixed feelings about leaving her on her own in the car or even the back yard because I'm scared bad people might do bad things to her. I used to be fine with this with house mates dog when I lived in Canberra - sigh, times seem to have changed or I've gotten more paranoid in the last 10 years.

I only leave mine if I'm going shopping, am going to be making a lot of stops, or going into hardware stores etc (which usually takes me a while.

I'm kind of like a 24/7 dog person. My dog is my constant companion. Besides, he's so well behaved compared to the children. Lol.

The day the family decides I return to work, then I would have to get another dog for him to be with. Although I'd prefer to have him with me.

Up untill recently, the pets were hardley left alone unless I was out shopping or picking the kids up/dropping them off etc. But lately I have been out during the day (renovating mum's house)..I leave Candy and Falcon some bones, scattered cat biscuits and empty, plastic milk cartons with treats inside to keep them busy. I do the same when I go to work on the w/ends too.

Mine have always been outside when left, happy just to stick around the farm house.
We have left them for a week or so at a time with hubbys father coming in daily. Always dry food and water available (same with cats, none are gutses) and FIL checks water, dry and feeds other in the evenings.

Shads however used to go to a kennel for any vacations We then stopped that and tried FIL. We found that if Shads saw bags going in the car, both of us going, he would walk 3km to the other farm. We then started driving him there, he would turn, say toodlepip and trudge on up to the other dogs.

I'm currently a stay at home mum so I'm home all the time except for a weekly grocery shop which takes about an hour.
