I have a job. I put homeless dogs down every week.

Culprit, don't get so defensive. I have not been on this website for long....But my intent for joining was initally to find a mate for my Paw-Sha. I love her very much, she has a perfect face and a wonderful temperment. I thought she was perfect breeding material. HOWEVER. I too got the same responce you have. I was given the same advice and the same "To breed or not to breed" littriture to read. I....unlike you took the time to read it.....I have never breed before and thought it would be a great experience. However I did not know much about the whole process and after reading a lot and being informed by other web sites regarding BYB (Back yard Breeders) I found that I would have been making a REALLY BAD choice! It is best left up to the breeders who are professinals in the matter. They spend years learnering about there breed and will only breed from a non selfish perspective....ie, they have only the dog in mind!
It appears to me that you really should read up on the subect like I did, this way you will understand WHY it is the wrong idea to become a BYB. In any case you do not even know the breed of the dog you are trying to mate. If this is the case what do you think you will tell the people whom you plan to sell these pups too?? Also even if you did find out what breed your own dog is. Do you know for sure that your dogs pups will go to good, loving, forever homes?? I know you want the best for your Dog....as we all do for ours......BUT PLEASE do some more reseach as it is deffinatly not as easy as just mateing two dogs and getting a litter of pups out of it! I hope I have managed to make you see sence!
Kind regards Paw-Sha.

Glad you had time to read it, I simply don't and in reality it is irrelevant to my situation. I understand where they are coming from they simply only see it one way.

I don't intend to be a back yard breeder and never stated such a thing just the "know it all's" jump the gun by not bothering to read my post and started to give me a sermon. I merely asked should I stand my dog over a bitch from a breeder (Whom are recommended by the Westie Club of Victoria) to gain a pup or buy a Westie pup from another breeder (Whom would be recommended as well). All I got in return was the bible read to me like Margaret Tighe at a "Right To Life" seminar. The breeder in question has orders for their pups before they even arrive. The Breeder I obtain my Westie off is the same. I had to wait due to the high demand of their Puppies so the scenario of death to the dogs was overkill. I cannot see someone going to the expense of obtaining a Westie and having it put down.

Why is Culprit getting so upset and angry!? This is a forum, to discuss things, share knowledge. Some of you might be 'know it alls'.. but that's an asset to the forum!! Some people would have had no clue about a lot of topics if it weren't for you guys. (i jump on this forum about once a week and read posts just incase I might learn something that I didn't know before)
And.. at the end of the day.. its just an opinion. It doesn't mean anyone is technically right or wrong, its still a free country and you can do what you want!!!

As someone who regularly visits a somewhat controversial forum (not this one), I can see where culprit is coming from. "Know-it-all" is typically (at least on the other forum I frequent) a label for those that assume everything about someone, write a typical snobbish/insulting post, generally aimed at that someone, and that post is (in my experience) generally heading off topic.

As for myself, I did not read it either. However, I do not intend to breed my dog now or in the future. Should I wish to breed, I am responsible enough to seek advice and research first.

Good on you for being responsible enough to seek advice & research, not everyone is responsible though, alot of byb's only see the $$$$ profit when it comes to breeding

My post was intended to educate & inform ppl about some of the facts of breeding & it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular.
