as a new dog human, i am wondering.. is it best to go on the same route for a walk, or vary the route each time? thanks in advance..

I have about 7 differant routes for my walks, i think its good for the dog, he gets to sniff new odours instead of the same ones each time, and you aslo dont get bored with the same scenery each time

I think it's good to have a few different walks as dogs either get bored with the same ol same ol...OR they get to know the walk tooooo good and it ends up not being enough for them.

I only have 2 ways I can get to the dog off-leash park...and OMG, it's like leading a horse home to it's dinner!!!! I wish I had more choices..lol

I vary the route each time, that way it's not boring for me or the dog. I tend to just go where I feel like... I might have a general idea in mind then go from there. Mind you I am already sick of walking around my suburbs - I use up petrol driving to places nearby that are a lot more interesting for walks!

thank you.. there is a beach we can give her off lead time on, but i was waiting for the weekend, so my (younger and much more fit) husband can take off after her if need be.. when she has been with us for longer than a week, and i can depend on her returning to me, then i will take her to the beach more often. as it is, she was restless this morning, barking at the same dogs she has ignored previously. time for a change.

Different routes to walk is vital, to keep your dog and us happy. It is the same for us, if we walked the same way all the time....it gets very boring, monotomous and stael. Vaierty IS the spice of life! enjoy walks, it should not be a chore. You will have a much happier and smater dog. New sights, new sents. Enjoy! I love off lead parks, it is lovely to see a dog free, enjoying life and learning/exploring new things.

this dog is amazing.. the doggie beach was almost deserted yesterday morning, Millie absolutely loved running at full pelt! and for a greyhound crossed with whatever, she flies!! she also returned without having to call her or anything.. so this morning i took her there on my own. for a dog that has only been with us a week now, she surely knows where her next liver treat is coming from! she raced around me in large circles as i plodded happily along the water line, took off up the beach like lightening, then came back with a hugely happy doggie grin on her face.. she's flat out now, on her bed.. i wish i could do the same..

I love watching dogs boar around

I own a Kelpie and when we go to the beach, she runs half way up the beach as fast as she can chasing seagull, i love it
The Jack Russell though he's not quite as much fun...

don't they just love being off lead like, able to run where they want to go, as fast as they can.. Millie is so graceful about it too..
