Lots of good advice, I have 1 more suggestion. Have you thought about volunteering at a local shelter a couple of hours a week. You'll meet lots of breeds of all ages. Get lots of hands on experience, and make some human friends as well. When you decide on the right type of dog you will have a network of people looking with you for that special one.

I like little poodle cross dogs, plenty in rescue too.

Maltese don't shed much either but can be yappy little things and mine was impossible to train. Still we love her and she is great in the house now.

    Great idea Emma.

When I was working in welfare we found some wonderful homes for our dogs and cats with volunteers. They got to know the animals before adopting them and it was lovely to see the dogs coming back regularly for visits.

Even just an hour or two to help out with dog walking is always much appreciated.
