    I feel your pain.

A dear friend of mine recently aquired a mini schnauzer. Partly because she had told me she wanted a "schnoodle" and I warned her off designer crossbreds. So I asked where the breeder was from and she tells me a vague region, then says "She has lots of different breeds..." all the usuals were then named, cavaliers, poodles, maltese etc... She then tells me how this breeder is so nice she brought the pup halfway so she didn't have to travel all the way to pick it up... I didn't have the heart to tell her that her little darling has come from a puppy farm - and a very prominent one at that.

Like you thought Puggerup, why spoil her puppy honeymoon?? But he had terribly bowed hind legs... and I worry endlessly about rickets and bone deformities. All I could do was advise her on diet and calcium, and give her a contact for a good vet...

did the dog look like it had any deformaties?

Cant stand hearing about people who farm animals like this for breeding. Unfortunately some poeple get sucked into these scams.

It is sad, but I dont think you should write her off just yet.

I got two of my cats from a pet shop and one of my dogs from a BYB. Incredibly stupid choices but I had no idea about puppy mills or unethical breeding.

I love mine to peices and they are my arms and legs and I will always care for them. Whilst some of us may head down the wrong path to begin with, I certainly hope we are given the opportunity to be educated and learn.

I really hope this dog is well looked after.

I know what you mean puggerup. Yesterday we met a couple at the beach and they had two 10 week old puppies from a pet shop.... I was thinking of saying something but I didn't because they were so happy.

A colleague wants to get a pup for his sons and they decided on a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I told him to get the pup via a registered breeder and he contacted the club in Victoria. Unfortunately he was told last week that there will be no pups this year... They want a pup for around Christmas and now want a schnoodle instead I will talk to him again....

Oh dear, people should be willing to wait for their perfect pup!!! I hope you can talk him into waiting.

You know, it's like there needs to be mass advertising on tv, newspapers etc informing people about puppy mills, pet shops, BYBs. Is so frustrating!!!

I think that Don Burke made a lot of people aware of designer breeds and he certainly gave them a big wrap up. He has a lot to answer for. Sorry to any fans of his but he should have stuck with gardening.
People are really ignorant about BYB's etc but I was the same many many years ago. I always checked out the beautiful puppies in the windows and wished that I could afford one. Now I know better. I really feel for the puppies....so cruel. Also for the folk who buy them, then have the awful problems after. It wasn't until I joined forums such as this that I learned so much and I'll be forever grateful to all who educated me about these......horrid breeders!! They should all be put in little cages.
The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs.

Now, I must say, Roly was bought for me when I was 10 by my parents from a pet shop. They had no idea about BYB and puppy mills till I started nursing. They said he was JRT X Maltese. No way in hell he could have Maltese in him! But he is perfectly fine health wise.
