Thread: Amstaff or Pitbull?

    Default Amstaff or Pitbull?

Hello Everyone, im new to this forum, I am just wondering if people can shed abit of light on my 5 month old pup. I love him and I dont care what breed he is but I have heard different things from different people, I picked this puppy from a whole bunch because he came to me first, it was from a private breeder and he told me it is an American Staffordshire Terrier, BUT when i have walked him a few times people have commented that he is a Pit Bull. If you know anything or just have an oppinion please let me know. Thank You.

The Last picture was when he was 11 weeks old.

Thank you very much That makes me feel alot better because in SA if you get reported they can take my pup away if he is a pit.

Theres a link to an old thread, I posted pictures of Pit Bulls and Amstaff so people could see the difference.
I guess you could make up your own mind.
Hopefully Choppa will be on soon, she owns a beautiful Pit Bull. Im very jealous
    You should post more photos!

Hello and welcome, I'd say Amstaff but he is still young, Choppa Chop or beau would be the best to tell.

    Nice looking pup.

Without papers saying hes an Amstaff, hes a Pitbull. well, thats what the authorities will class him as.

You will need papers as technically the breeds can be considered one and the same - especially by councils.

Talk to your breeder. If he is registered get some formal papers for him, if not make sure that they will be available to back you up if council decide he could be a Pit and ask for proof.

Or... move to the ACT, where pitbulls aren't restricted!!

The others are right - Choppa Chop is the authority around here on the issue. But you really need to cover your backside and have some written document that he's an Amstaff.

You know its impossible to say, and i mean impossible, so go with what the breeder said he is.
And also check your legislation under the cat and dog management act on prescribed breeds, you will find they cant take any dog by breed if it hasnt been prescribed without something really really bad happening TO THEM.
