even if it does rub a few up the wrong way.
It doesn't matter how hard I try to phase something in a way that a person will be pleased to hear / read it - some people still get upset. Nothing we can do about that.

Hmm well it depends, I have been thoroughly abused in my time by more than one person who when challenged said something like " I was just joking" or "Don't be so sensitive" or "I am just blunt". Not an excuse or a reason I find acceptable.
For a public forum to be a pleasant place forum members choose be respectful of other people, If someone had said to me, when I first posted, "your problems are because you have a mutt" or something in that vein, I would have vanished.
I came to this forum hoping for good ideas that would enable me to become a more effective and knowledgeable dog owner, indeed I found them many times, oiled by kindness and consideration. I have even changed my mind about some issues because of well reasoned and expert knowledge.
None of this would have happened if I felt put down when I first posted.
Of course a new person can be oversensitive! Their loved dog is suffering and they have obviously spent a lot of money at the vets looking for solutions.
They then came to the forum feeling vulnerable and a bit desperate for answers and maybe even a bit embarrassed to ask for help at all. I know I was .
So "I am just blunt will never cut it with me".

Haven't seen OPs comments as they've been deleted...but I do know something about skin problems and allergies in dogs...there's no cure and no one knows why they occur. What I have learnt is it's sometimes the breed or it could be an individual thing as many dogs either pure or cross breed suffer from skin and allergies problems...just hope you don't get a dog with either.

GSDs are known for skin problems...my GSD Rex has had skin problems and been on meds for most of his life. I've done heaps of things to solve this without luck...in time you accept the fact It's the breed. My GSD Tara never had skin problems as such but had other health problems.

Vet once said I could take Rex to a specialist who would do test over 12 mths and cost $1800 and still might not know what is causing it...so I kept him of the meds. One thing's for sure if you discover a cure for skin and allergies problems...you'll make zillions.

Yes but two of us gave reasonable answers and asked more questions. And we did not say "it's because you have a mutt". But the only voice this person chose to acknowledge was the mean one. That's how trolls get ahead in life - they get what they want by being mean and driving people away.

But you couldn't really tell from the photos what kind of dog it was. The OP could have written - it's a pedigree ... or like the rest of us - just disagreed with MMJ.

I really don't enjoy the forums where nobody is allowed to disagree or debate anything and have to be all sweetness and light. You miss out on important info if you run the forum like that.

And some of us - like I said - we can try to say things right but it doesn't matter - you will get this result.

I think maybe that's why some of us like dogs better than humans, some of the time, because the dog understands the intent, even if your words aren't always all pretty.

We don't know how desperate the OP was. And we don't know if MMJ was just having a bad day. It's a forum. You can get anyone with any level of social grace.

And I don't think we're going to change MMJ into something he or she isn't.

Personally - because I have a special gift for upsetting people - I get really pissed off when someone comes in and makes demands about how the forum should run - eg the OP did that. I'd much prefer they ignored MMJ as they ignored the two who did try to help, or stand up for themselves.

I did send them a PM to the forum that is all sweetness and light. But they haven't posted there either.

Maybe it was mozzies and they got what they needed.

This forum is very mild in comparison to another dog forum I no longer go on and I have a thick hide.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion...right or not and if the OP was upset then say so...there's always the report button. I was once told on another dog forum that my GSD Rex was vicious and dangerous and should be made wear a muzzle in public...this coming from a person who had never met me or Rex.

Our Rottie Opal use to lick her paw to the stage she'd lick the pad off and it would bleed and was very sore...vet put her on tabs plus cream to rub into it. This worked for a while...her paw cleared up and then she'd start licking another paw...with the same result. This went on for years then all of a sudden she stopped doing it...who knows why.

You can't always take notice of what people say on forums either...someone on another forum told me of this cream they got from some naturalist and it worked wonders for their dogs skin problem...so as I was at this stage desperate for a solution I got some...it cost me $50 and did bloody nothing and smelt terrible too.

It's positively gentle compared to the one I call "the dark side"...

But there is a milder one...

Trouble is - what one person calls "insulting" is just another person being direct. Ie there are some socially accepted conventions for what is insulting, and some that are all personal. Ie I don't think calling my dog a "mutt" is insulting - she is and I don't see that as a bad thing.

Yeah this forum is pretty mild, some are super aggressive that even I have got over it and left. MMJ probably a little pissed off because so many problems are breeder related, my specialist vet friends often tell me that. But there were some skin helpful posts too. Debate is good, sweetness and light is not always productive. This is the internet and people just have to take from it what they can. Hey I have ANKC pedigree, working pedigree and farm bred rescue(mutt), had some medical disasters mutts and pedigrees alike. Learnt a lot on the journey, probably a lot more to learn

Hey MMJ, I didn't read Hyacinth's post as essentially labelling you a troll. I read it as meaning the reaction of the OP was exactly what causes trolls to do what they do. Nothing to do with your post and everything to do with oversensitivity of the OP.
This thread is a great example of how easy it is to mis-communicate and cause/take offence online (damn this Yankee spell check! I take offence at all the red lines under my perfectly spelt words.....).

mymatejack, you have contributed positively on many occasions. Somehow this all got prolonged. No way you were doing anything that would label you a troll and I didn't read it that way at all.
