    Default What's In A Name

I was at Blacktown Pound today and saw a dog that was said to be an Irish Wolfhound...judge for yourself...

I went back to the office and said the dog wasn't an Irish Wolfhound as I know what the breed looks like but was told I was wrong...below is a pic of a real Irish Wolfhound...maybe the person who identifies the dogs was on holidays. I hope the poor dog above finds a good home...didn't find anything I liked.

I don't hear much good out of blacktown pound.

The worst thing they do is rehome or sell dogs that are not desexed.

At least that dog won't get taken home by someone looking for an Amstaff x or pitbull type.

The place is a real dump...it's suppose to be getting an upgrade or is to be moved...I'll believe it when I see it. All dogs are desexed now before going to their new homes...it took many years to force council to do the right thing.

I said to the person at the counter...have you ever seen an Irish Wolfhound...I have at dog shows...they are a tall hairy dog and don't look nothing like that dog but I was talking to a brick wall.

Most of these poor dogs were just skin and bones and many had fly bitten ears one had mange as well...it's a very sad place. Dog poo in the kennels and the staff hose them out with the dogs still in the kennels summer and winter.

These same council staff can come onto your property claim your dog is a pitbull and just take it away...then you have to prove your dog isn't a pitbull...something terribly wrong here.

That thing were council staff just take the dog away for looking like a pitbull - as far as I know - that only applies in Victoria and that law might be repealed soon because they just got a new government.

Yes we are thinking about it as Rex is very old and don't think he has much time left...so I'll keep an eye out. We've always had three dogs but far too expensive these days.

I'm thinking maybe a Rottie (pure) or Rhodesian Ridgeback (either pure or cross) from a pound or rescue... maybe but not another GSD...a friend has an RR a she's a beautiful girl...reminds me of our Dobe.

It's happened here too...not long ago in another suburb this poor guy was reported to Blacktown council by a neighbor for owning a pitbull...this guy was told by a council ranger that he must by law build a special enclosure and the pitbull must wear a special collar.

The guy kept telling this ranger and council the dog wasn't a pitbull but the guy started to build this enclosure out of fear (I think) because council might take his dog.

Council ranger came back and said the enclosure wasn't finished by the alloted time so the dog was seized...poor guy went to the local newspaper out of desperation and they approached council asking questions...so council did a DNA test and you guessed it...dog wasn't a pitbull and was returned to him and no apology from Blacktown council either. Don't know what happened after that but if council did that to me I would sue the bastards.
