    Default Excessive water drinking

    Hey guys,
I have noticed My 2 yo lab drinks ALOT of water. When she goes for a huge walk she will drink lots or if it's hot which is understandable but I have noticed that even on cooler days when she isn't hot or excersising she we drink non stop for about 2 minutes walk away and then do the same thing. She also urinates quite frequently. I know that excessive water drinking can be kidney disease, diabities or a UTI, I will be sure to get her checked at the vets but does anyone else'a dog do or have done this? I have only noticed it happening for the last 1-2 months.

    Thanks in advance

I have a husky, and like labs, they're known to love water. Compared to other dogs I've had he drinks a hell of a lot too .. but are you sure she's actually drinking it the whole time? As you're most likely aware, dogs perspire partially through their tongues, so maybe she just enjoys the cool water on her tongue?

This morning I filled their water up, Charlie my other dog had a small drink and pepper had her drink and the water bowl is now half empty. However when she goes drink she finishes and has water all coming out of her mouth and it drips everywhere.

A couple of my young dogs push water out of the drinking bowl with their mouths when it is hot, probably because it feels good, so the bowl gets emptied but not all of it is drunk. If you are worried could be worth asking a vet. My friend has a young kelpie that was recently diagnosed with diabetes. My dogs do drink quite a lot of water when it is hot, can also depend on what you are feeding them. If it is dry food only and the dog is active that could increase the water consumptiom I would think.

My Cousin studies Vet Nursing, she spoke to her Vet today and the vet seems to think there's a chance it could be Cushings Disease! I have researched a little but has anyone's pooches had this disease? I guess I will have to wait and see after her vet apt on Saturday.

I think it might be a good idea to actually get the dog checked at the vets if you are worried. There are so many possibilitites and also that it might just be a messy drinking labrador. They are after all related to newfoundland dogs and mine dringk a lot and love to leave half of it next to the bowl
