Default Dog vs Elephant or the ultimate stay distracton proofing...

So which dog out of the border collie, the Maltese, the hound bitza, the farm dog bitsa and the boxer - will stay and which will leave.

Pretty sure my dog would - at this stage of her life - bite the elephant.

I don't think i'd put either of my dogs through that... they'd be absolutely terrified. Koda would absolutely lose the plot and run to me (his safe person/place). And Dodge would probably also be very scared and run away. She might listen to my dad if it was him telling her to stay, but I think her instincts to run away would overpower her.

I'm very impressed by the boxer, seeing him make the conscious decision to ignore his fear and listen to his owner. Brilliant dog!

Maggie would have hysterics and run behind me. If it moved fast she would chase it before she thought about it ( like the kangaroo she met but an elephant!

yes I thought it interesting that the two dogs with a reputation for being more intelligent and maybe thinking for themselves - did not hold their stays (the border collie and the farm dog bitsa)... but the boxer with a reputation for being an air head - trusted its owner and did what it was told.

A lot of the comments on the FB post - were upset about the Elephant being "subjected to such cruelty" - but I couldn't see it. The elephant was free to leave any time it wanted. But it wanted the banana. And it was clearly not the least bit bothered by barking dogs either. And USA telly with animals is really really closely supervised by their RSPCA equivalent. Hence you see "no animals were harmed in the making of..." at the end of any bit of movie or tv that includes an animal.

Cruel to the elephant? Really? Never mind the dogs...

There is no way either of my dogs would stay put. They'd both run for it, now question. How impressive was that SWF? He didn't even flinch. Maybe his eyesight isn't so good...

Awesome proofing....i can picture my katy..steal the banana and runnnnnnnn. I would not have picked the maltese as the one who would stay, but i do know how they always feel they can take on large dogs
