Default Miniature Fox Terrier Vs Jack Russell Terrier

    Hey guys
Any of you know how they differ?
    Thanks in advance

I know that a Jack Russell is an older breed that the Mini Fox terrier, and I think the JRT comes from England.

I think the Mini Foxie was developed in Australia within the last century, as was the Tenterfield Terrier. I am not an expert though, and am happy to be corrected....

I don't really think they are related to JRT at all - just a similar size and colouring. I always thought that a Mini Foxie was what gained ANKC recognition as a Tenterfield Terrier but apparently there are still two different types...

Sorry Mags - I haven't really made anything clearer there have I??

    Sorry - me again.

A Mini Foxie is at least similar to a Tenterfield, this is the Tentie standard:

    Australian National Kennel Council

    This is the JRT standard:

    Australian National Kennel Council

They are only a description of the ideal but give a good idea of the physical differences...

    Thanks Natt
I'm mostly interested in their temperaments and which is more suited to an older owner.
    Are Tenterfields smaller?
All I know is that they were bred to hunt rodents.

Well im not that cluey about these 2 breeds either, by my OH's sister has a JRT and his brother has 2 little foxie terriers.

The JRT is very placid, quite timid but very loving once he trusts you, & very loyal to his skin Mum. But is still quite a proud little dog, i love the way he sits, really straight and poised, really cute. He was raised with a big ridgeback cross but no kids.

then the 2 foxies - 1 of the foxies is an absolute mental case! Wont sit still for 2 secs and is very hard work to train, I suggested they name her Pipper when they got her as she was/is such a little nipper! (And they did!) The other little foxie is just the opposite, very very timid, doesnt like to be held at all, very quite, would just rather sit and watch whats going on from a quite place. Both little foxies have been raised with a younge 2-4yr old child, Pipper came home first.

Dont think iv really helped you much, but wanted to add as much info as i could for you. But honestly I think either could/would suit, it think it would come down to the dogs personality at the end of the day

    Thanks Leo
I love hearing diff. doggy stories
I'm thinking of getting a little one for my mum. She's on her own but only 2 streets away so I'd have part-custody of it too. I've met a few MF's and were sweet, but I agree it depends on the individual dog.

No worrys Mags. I personally prefer the JRT as i just feel they have a little more 'spunk' , where as the foxy always seem to be sweet as you say. So what are you after for your mum, spunk or sweet? LOL

Meet a little JRT x Staffy the other day! Gosh he was cute! and SOO spunky!

Edited to add, and who would you want to be puppy sitting, Spunky or sweetie?
