Sorry four socks, but I can confirm, we get English Staffys in all the time.
The are the same as any SBT.

that is what I tried to tell her and gave up as she wouldnt beleive me!!!
She means the small ones knee hight (not the snuffly ones apparently! I knew someone with a 'small' staffy and she snorted something cronic and had droopy lips like her mouth couldnt close)
so knee high staffy not snorty whose mouth closes (heheh as you can tell not up on staffy types!)
Know not amstaff or bull arab

    Hi FS...

Some ppl do refer to them as English Staffordshire Bull Terriers & i'm one of those ppl as i don't want my true traditional SBT'S to be confused with Amstaffs etc because i want my SBT'S to have their own rightful identity. I've had loads of strangers out in public etc comment on my SBT'S & say how nice it is to see a true short stocky "English Stafford".

    Hi ERINAH

IMO there is only one true Stafford & that is the English SBT, if your friend is wanting a SBT puppy-so hope your friend buys puppy from a reputable registered breeder & not from a pet shop, local paper or a backyard breeder etc,

here is the link to the SBT Club of SA, im sure they will lead you to a good breeder or SBT rescue centre in SA.

    My SBT'S heights etc are:

FLOYD 16" at withers & weights 16.8 kilos, Floyd is within SBT "Breed Standard" & a short solid boy

RIP...ZEPPELIN 17" at withers & weights 20 kilos, he was broad built boy

    Hi Erinah.
In my opinion and from personal experience Staffords are good with kids. I believe that they prefer human company over other dogs. I love this quote from my Staffordshire book "Kelly, don't hurt the doggie. The 3 year olds mother is duly embarrassed. Her daughter Kelly has just hit the Stafford in the head with a tinker toy. Meanwhile, the Stafford is patiently squinting her eyes against the next assult."
They can be full on though, very excitable, jumpy and because of their strength could easily knock a child over. This can be corrected with training though which isn't usually hard as they have a huge desire to please the owner. As I said before I'm talking from my own experience about my own dogs or ones I've been around, but dogs even of the same breed vary, I've seen some nasty Staffords too.

I'd suggest a reputable breeder.(happy to give you some names of good ones in SA). if your friend wants a tiny pup.

Rescue is a good idea too-that way the little boy/girl can spend some time with it and parents can see how they're getting along. She can get an older pup or young adult, maybe even one with basic training, it's a common breed in shelters these days.

    Apart from RSPCA
    AWL
    There's
    Petrescue.com.au
Moorook Animal Shelter (2.5-3hr drive from Adelaide cbd)
    Whyalla Vet ( keep rescues)
Sandy Creek shelter ( pretty sure still operating)

Moorook & Whyalla Vet currently have a couple of Staffords and a few Stafford x.
Sorry to make this long...but we're talking about Staffords here

    Hey Erinah,
I think the other breed you were thinking of was the British Bull dog. Sounds what your friend is after is a Staffy=Staffordshire bull terrier.

Aussie Floyd is right- the Staffordshire bull terrier is an English Staffordshire bull terrier. Staffordshire=a place in England.
