I know this might be a bit of a controversial topic, but I'm curious ..
From my short time researching dogs on the internet before deciding to get my own, one thing I came across nearly everywhere is people copping hate from others about how "wrong" crossbreeding is, that their dog is a mutt and isn't going to be a good pet, is a "low quality" dog etc etc .. and I sit there and ask myself .. why?
Now, I can understand the assumption here is that majority of mix breed dogs are from people who simply think "Hey we have a male and female dog, let's make some money", which I do not agree with for obvious reasons, but putting that aside and assuming the breeder IS responsible and truly loves their dogs ..
What's so morally wrong about cross breeding? Why is it seen as such a bad thing? Why do people think that these "mutts" are going to make any less of a good pet than a pure bred dog? For a start all pure bred dogs are a result of cross breeding at some stage, why is there a sudden discouragement from people about doing it now?
I kind of almost see it as selfishness, and as an analogy, "Well we already have computers, why bother researching and inventing new technology?" Why? Because only through experimentation is how humans got anywhere in this world, for literally everything we know and do. If someone can genuinely breed a cross breed dog, it's healthy, and suits the owners needs, who's to say whether it's a crappy "mutt"?? In 10 years time said crossbreed might be the most popular breed in an entire country, is it still a low quality mutt that no one wants?
Sorry I had this built up for a while now and needed to let it go. I'm one of those people that will love dogs no matter what they look like or what they do, as companion animals. So what if it's neck is a bit too short or it's nose is a little rounded, or maybe it's ears aren't as big as they should be, it's still a dog, an animal with feelings, and needs a good home with lots of love. Humans are so quick to jump on racism in their own species, but when it's essentially racism between dog as a species, people are all for it.
And just so it's clear I'm in no way supporting irresponsible breeders, but if the breeder is genuine in their ways, then I don't see what the deal is.
Opinions are welcome, it's the internet and I'm not gonna break down into a mess if someone disagrees with me as some people may I just hope people on this forum can contain themselves and have an intelligible discussion, as many are probably aware some forums out there would endeavour to have my head off for even conceiving a thread such as this
