Yep we have a 'screw in' water bowl so he can't knock it over.

Please be careful he doesn't harm himself!! Staffies do not tolerate confinement. Perhaps having a sitter would be better?! Don't know.. I suffer from separation anxiety when I am away from my little ones for too long.

I've looked into having a sitter, they seem to be either very expensive and / or can only do certain hours etc. On one hand a sitter would be great, on the other hand this is just delaying the process in Buddy getting used to our work routine!
My partner has been home today, leaving for short periods of time etc, putting snacks in the crate etc and Buddy has been behaving superbly. Firstly we had the crate in the lounge room, we have now moved it into the middle of the house and underneath the table, and Buddy has been going in there voluntarily and napping etc. He actually LOVES it!...
I will monitor him tonight and see if he will sleep in it by himself (with the door open) if he is that comfortable with it, we may not need to lock him up in it during work hours, I'm pretty sure that he may just go in there by himself if he feels safe.
Anyway, as I have mentioned before, this is only a short term solution until he settles in. He is only new, and being a pound dog he has some issues. He has made a lot of progress in a week and seems to be calming down every day.

    OK - crate update!!

I went home at lunchtime to check up on Buddy - and he had escaped out of his crate!!

Somehow he had opened the bottom latch and pushed his way through.

When I came home I could see that he had tried looking out some of the windows (a pot plant was broken) and a few curtains a bit odd - but he was upstairs on the bed (where he sleeps). None of the doors had been further scratched (from previous attempts to get out!) and nothing had been chewed up.. so this is a good sign! I now need to go through the house and make sure its completely dog proof (put remotes and cords and things away!) as I think that he is going to have to deal with being master of the house from now on. I think that as long as the bedroom door is open then he will just go up there and sleep until we get home...

PS. Anyone want to buy a crate!?? he he

I just wanted to add, if you aren't sure if you are going to keep him, it might be a good idea to keep the crate for his future owners aide??

Little sh_ _! Sorry, it's funny but not funny
But how cute of him to sleep on the bed. I think he'll be ok. I think with time he'll get used to sleeping when you're not there.
