Your much loved dog was the result of an unusual cross. You will nit be able to replace it but there will be a new companion out there.
My suggestion is to write down the qualities you have appreciated and look for those and widen your search criteria away from looks
    I wish you well.

Hi Mitch and welcome, I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

Reading your post I had a couple of thoughts - firstly, did you see the parents? Ie are you sure your dog was a border collie cross spaniel? Sometimes I see ads for puppies for sale and they claim that they're Husky cross Labrador or whatever but you see pictures of the parents and they are obviously not pure themselves. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, just makes it harder to replicate. Secondly, there are lots of spaniels, do you know what kind of spaniel it was?

If you tell us what size, energy level and personality you want I'm sure there's lots of people on these forums who could suggest dogs that will potentially be a great match for you.

Sometimes it's not such a bad thing to get something a bit different from your last dog either. I had a blue Burmese growing up and when she passed away, I initially wanted a new blue Burmese. In the end, it was difficult for me seeing other blue Burmese because they weren't her and so I ended up with a Seal Point Tonkinese (Burmese cross Siamese). Definitely similar qualities but also some differences especially in appearance and I think that's worked well for me.

Anyway, getting a new dog is very exciting and I wish you all the best in your search

    Lots of cute puppies here
Search small and medium puppies in all states

    including a 6mo Doberman (WTF). Hey 99bottles...

Mitch, it's generally a bad idea to try to find a dog that was just like your last one. Appearance and attitude, they might have in common but each dog has its own personality. A lot like children - even from the same parents - they're all different.

So any mixed breed with a bit of spaniel might be good.

    Hello Mitch,
I have literally just joined this forum as a new owner of a English Springer Spaniel x Border Collie (10wks) named Bowie. I found him on (edit site) whilst searching for a English Springer Spaniel.

They wanted $400 for him with no vaccination, vet check or microchip but said I could negotiate price. I told them that I wasn't prepared to pay that for a new pup with no check, vaccinations or microchip but they should keep my number just in case they have difficulty finding them a new home. A week later I got a text saying there was one left and I could have him and that he had to be out of the house that night or he'd be "swimming with the fishes" the next day. I picked him up immediately. (edit)

Bowie has been a perfect pup from the moment he entered his new home with his 13yo Shih Tzu x Maltese "dog mum"! And, as a new dog trainer (just completed my SOA Dog Training Certification with Steve and Vicki Austin), (edit) !

I really do hate the way people randomly breed dogs to make money and then want to drown them or dispose of them without any thought as to where they are going when they cant get rid of them. Makes me sick.

Bowie was lucky but many are not. Hopefully he grows up with no genetic health issues. I also have a pup from a similar situation a randomly bred litter but I insured him for the first 18 months untill I was sure there were no initial issues like HD or ED having been caught out with elbow dysplasia before.

That's not legal in Victoria and probably not legal in NSW either.

Gawd I hate that website - Carolyn Smee, if you're going to promote that site of scams and back yard breeders and puppy mills you will have a short stay here.

If you wanted an English Springer Spaniel - why did you look on that site?
