Thread: Chasing Birds (How Do You Get Your Dog to Do It?)

Default Chasing Birds (How Do You Get Your Dog to Do It?)

Ive searched for this issue and many people talk about how to get your dog to stop chasing birds, but none talk about how to get ur dog to start chasing birds. My dog doesn't seem to mind that his food is being eaten by the neighborhood birds, and, as much as i would like to feed them, i only want to my dog to eat his food ^^

So, does anyone know how to get the dog to chase the birds, preferably on his own but on command is ok. I can get him to "get the ball" or "get the toy", maybe its the same principle. I dont want him to kill the birds but just to run after them . Anyone have any idea?

I was going to ask the question how do i stop my NJ from chasing birds, NJ dose it only when they are in the yard. bit like "this is my yard" thing.
May i ask what sort of dog you have?

Instead of getting him to chase the birds,I would suggest feeding him where the birds cant get it

I stopped Cappy from chasing birds by
    1. owning a bird
    2. teaching him to chase them on command

This meant that he didn't try and take off into traffic when he saw a bird across the street.

My two now ignore birds which is irritating as the bloody things come into the house and eat bird seed whilst crapping all over the shop

Teaching him to chase could lead to trouble, I wouldn't bother. I'd feed your dog inside or hang around when he's eating. If he doesn't finish his meal within 15 minutes, take the food away.

    Hey NJ
Sounds like a territorial thing. My girls do it too and in their yard only. They just don't want any intrudersThey don't really chase them to catch them, more to chase them away, therefore I'm not really worried about it and they don't chase them when we're out. They do stop ( most iof the time) if I yell out 'no'.
They're good with my cockatiel (inside). He landed on Misis head once and she just sat thereI do think that if it was Lola she would have had him as a snack. So I only have him out if I'm in the same room.
