    Default Meet Bruno

Well, we took the plunge and here Bruno is! Bruno is 8 months old and is a papered pedigree Staff from a registered interstate Staff breeder. We had options here in Perth but prices were way out of our range. Even with transport factored in, Bruno was cheaper for us.

    Anyway, here he is.

He has only been with us a few days so is still settling in. The introduction with Serena went without a hitch and now Bruno follows Serena around like the puppy he is. The kids love him and he tries to lick them to death. He does need some leash training as he tends to pull but we are going to work on that over the coming weeks.

He has joined Serena in the study outside our bedroom to sleep and they both snore, putting me to shame (and that is saying something). He is more vocal than Serena but by no means a barker. I have started to feed Bruno by hand and that is going well and is quite gentle when taking food from my fingers. All in all, he has become another much loved family member.

Everything is new to him so we are giving Bruno space but he is taking it in his stride. Anyway, here are some photos. And thanks to everyone for their excellent advice.

He certainly is a handsome looking dog.

And I'm so glad he gets along well with Serena. Would have been difficult if he didn't.

I still wonder if you had given the local breeders the same opportunity they would not have found you an 8 month old or similar dog in your price range. Breeders usually do charge more for an 8 week old puppy than an 8 month old dog that has been returned because some other family couldn't cope.

Oh and welcome to doggy adolescence - and I think you're off to a good start with the hand feeding and care. All the things you learned with Serena apply but probably for different reasons.

Adolescent dogs are known for "selective hearing" and sudden irrational fears.

    Thankyou all.

Bruno really loves a wrestle too. Serena doesn't know what to make of this but tries to get in on the act anyway. I also caught Bruno and Serena playing tug - o - war with one of my socks - didn't think Serena could ever be on something like that - made me laugh as they looked sooo busted when I caught them. Also on the first day, Bruno decided it would be fun to frolic around in my winter vege beds. Evrything came off second best but luckily my garlic survived, although looking a little worse for wear. I have since fenced it off and replaced what suffered under Bruno's delicate paw. Like Serena, Bruno isn't fussed about the chickens and hardly registered their existence when they were out and about.

this photo shows Bruno's trail of destruction through my garlic. Oh Bruno. (that is going to become a saying in our house, I think). More tales from Bruno and Serena to come.

    Hi,

yes, Bruno loves loves to chew the following: Down sleeping bags (it was Serena's), plastic bags, pillow cases, dog beds (cheap target one, also Serena's), shoe box (minus shoes, thank the gods), computer paper. I gave him a rawhide doggy bone and he seems to be happy with that for now. Going to go to PBarn and get a kong and tug rope (or maybe make my own?). here is a photo of Serena and Bruno, fast asleep, oblivious to the chaos that surrounds them. Our leash training is going well although we are not ready to hit the big-wide world as yet. I am not going until we have a good walk going on. I am so happy with the way they get along. Sorry for the quality of the image - I only have the standard pop-up flash on my SLR.
    Cheers

P.S - yes, the state of the front room/study is pretty much indicative of the rest of the house. They should substitute house husband with messy house husband. When I signed up for this gig I was under the impression that my job was just to look after the kids and that the house would somehow miraculously clean itself. Well, that was clearly untrue.

Thanks a lot Sean. Its actually three kids...four if you include me, which my DW would agree. I pretty much have resigned myself to my state of affairs - but as long as everyone is healthy and happy then the house is secondary.

    Hi RJ,
Bruno is most def a hunk of love. Very cuddly like Serena but appreciates a good rough and tumble whereas Serena wouldn't lower herself to such unseemliness. She definitely runs the show and isn't afraid to let Bruno know if he has overstepped his mark! He is very well mannered, doesn't jump up and extremely gentle with the kids.

    Cheers

    Adrian
