I dunno about the cost. I'm thinking that the breeders probably have "mates rates" for people they like. Hence I'm really hoping you give them a chance before rushing off to gumtree.

Someone toted up the DNA tests, the vet costs, the puppy raising costs, the show costs, the ANKC registration costs and etc - and it did come to over $1000 a puppy... So anyone selling their puppies for less is skipping - probably on vet and show/ankc costs, mostly vet costs. So you might get a puppy that is not vaccinated or microchipped or wormed from parent dogs that are not microchipped or vaccinated... parvo risk is high... worm risk is high etc.

Rescue is a bit different because they get donations towards vet bills or vets give them discounts on desexing and they don't often pay much for the dogs that are already of no value to their previous owners for various reasons. So they can afford to sell just to recover their costs and they don't have the same costs as the ANKC pedigree breeders.

Yep in an ideal world a road trip would be awesome. Just like the movie 'Hangover'....

I do understand that good breeders pay good money to ensure that you buy a healthy, happy pup. Obviously there is a lot of hard work that occurs behind the scenes. Maybe it is best if we wait?? Anyway, I will probably stop annoying everyone here with every little thought that I have . I'll post back when or if I find what i'm looking for. But I will post more Serena updates as they come along.

    thanks for all your advice

Oh no - there will be nothing new to read... I enjoy your stories of doggy courage about Serena.

So your base cost would be your average rescue cost of about $400 (includes desex and vax and etc) + $400 freight - which is still under the average pedigree breeder price.

Just as well you're not looking for a French bulldog or Boston Terrier... Those guys are still incorporating import from Europe costs into their breeding, ie puppies are around the $3K mark give or take. And you want to be friends with the breeder. They're so cute puppies and quite nice natured. But not athletic enough for my liking.

In Perth I would recommend Shenton Park as they vet the behavior of the dogs very closely before putting them up for adoption, Pet Rescue (Safe) and my Bella came from Animal Protection Society Gosnells and they were great people.: ) Gumtree I would think would be highly likely to be backyard breeders: ( In fact Id bet money on it : (
