There is a very simple solution to your problem - although that may not be the one you want to hear. You desex your gorgeous little girl, leave the breeding to the registered breeders with their papered and health tested dogs and simply enjoy the beautiful girl you have without adding to the misery of the thousands of unwanted bullies that get dumped once their puppy cuteness is weaning off.

Your guess is as good as anyone elses. If you wanted an Amstaff 110% you should have bought from a pedigree breeder who provided you with pedigree papers. You also want to breed a dog you know nothing heritage wise (and there's more to a dog then it's breed, there's health and temperament) about to produce who knows what. Bull breeds are the most dumped dogs around, unless you have something to contribute to a decent gene pool you're just producing pound fodder.

There's plenty of out of standard examples of the breed. Doesnt mean they're not they're just not 'typey'. Love your pup for what she is.

    What Nekhbet said. I agree.

The only breed registry of American Staffordshire Terriers in Australia is the ANKC. They have rules. Pedigree dogs may only be mated with other pedigree dogs of the same breed and all puppies must be registered with the ANKC and microchipped (main register - is for dogs suitable for breeding and limited is for dogs that don't meet the standard or are not suitable for breeding). This is a breed registry and not the same as a council registry or registration.

You can't register a puppy with the ANKC that came with no ANKC papers. In Victoria you would have a hard time proving it's not a pitbull to council without those ANKC papers.

I would register this one with the council as a terrier cross and just be vague, if the council press harder - say "mixed breed" because you and they can't prove any different.

And I would get it desexed. If you did want to breed - you need to do DNA tests on both parent dogs to make sure you are not increasing the chances of breeding an unhealthy dog. Having a litter of puppies is a risk to the mother's life and long term health too. And it's harder to sell these kinds of dogs when people can't be confident about the health and temperament of the dogs they came from. There are squillions of staffy crosses in the pound and most of the bigger ones (that look like pitbulls) get PTS because they are too risky (potential to do serious damage) to rehome.

We do love her for what she is, we just don't want her to be taken from us and be put down.
Is there anyway we can have her checked to prevent this?

Because I'm not well educated about the amstaff/apbt breed, I'm just hoping that there's nothing that jumps out to you guys that indicates she isn't what we've been lead to believe.
She is a beautiful little girl, and we love her heaps already , but if she ever has puppies we want to be able to tell ppl what they are, with confidence.
I can only hope between now and 6 or 12 months time you educate yourself as to why you should NOT breed your dog. Is she a pet or a money making machine? There's a sticky thread somewhere on this forum which not only explains the problems you will be contributing to(over crowded pounds/thousands of unwanted dogs PTS each year etc) but also outlines the potential issues you will face that will see your money making mission turn into a big time money losing mission .... please research this issue, desex your dog and keep her safe

    No is the simple answer.

Your best chance(if you live in Vic) is to make sure she is extremely well trained and socialised so she doesn't ever get herself into trouble by attacking another dog. Other than that is make sure you don't annoy your neighbours so they don't report you, make sure she's registered as a staffy cross or something like that and not an amstaff ... there's plenty of amstaffs/apbt's still getting around in Vic, the owners are a combination of lucky and smart IMO. Also worth checking out dogsontrialvictoria facebook page to see whether you live in one of the high risk council areas

I cannot imagine why you would want puppies it is fraught with problems for your girl and the puppies. Search the forum for the posts about that.
Gumtree is just a forum for people selling stuff. You get what you get and buyer beware.
Pedigrees come from registered breeders and good ones have no need to use gumtree, they have a waiting list for their puppies.
Enjoy your girl she is what you chose and looks gorgeous and healthy.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the feedback. I do understand the point of having her desexed, I don't want to be responsible for contributing to the large number of dogs who end up in pounds or homeless.
Katana will have an awesome home here with us and I know she will be a great addition to our family.

Not if you live in Victoria. I think you could probably get away with registering her as SBT x Cattle dog or something - stay away from Amstaff on the rego form because they will want proof.

The Victorian local government do not accept DNA tests as proof of breed either. You've got a good chance of getting back "significant Chihuahua" if you do that - doesn't take much for some really weird results to come back on the DNA tests. So not really worth $150 except for the entertainment value. There's a few youtube clips of people with their dogs reading out their bizarre DNA results.

The most important thing you can do with a scary looking dog - is make sure she never escapes. So if you're expecting tradies - make sure she's secure. And make sure the gates or doors to your house are locked so stray people can't "accidentally" let her out.

When I first got my dog and she was all cute puppy - I took her on a tour of my neighbours - knocked on their doors - said this is my dog - any problems come to me first... so they know I'd be willing to listen and hear them out instead of some people who get angry and abusive if you have a problem with their dog. Some neighbours won't take the risk and they just call the council.

Council can't come into your house and sieze a dog without your permission or a warrant and police (you get some warning). They can go into your back yard and seize a dog without your permission and without warning or you being at home. And that can happen if someone says you have a pitbull. They just go by looks. If your dog is registered with a plausible breed id cross - they may accept that and leave a note in your letter box.

When I'm out, my dog stays in my house.
