Thread: Does anyone know how many stray dogs in pounds in WA?

    Numbers like that are really hard to find.

    OOOoooo OK!! Didn't know if anyone would be interested.
    My son only found the RSPCA figures but it is enough for his project.
    RSPCA has 39 shelters in Australia, they received 127,000 animals in 2012/13.
    1/3 of those were killed.

    I think the number of cats PTS vs cats rehomed is quite high compared to dogs

    a lot more dogs get homed vs pts than cats.

    So if they say 1/3 get killed - I'd say that is skewed by the cat rate...
    but is that 1/3 animals they deem "suitable for rehoming"
    because they often use "health and temperament" that can be treatable or trainable - to PTS and take that animal off the "suitable for rehoming list"
    Pretty sure if my evil hound went to the pound now and I didn't go get her - she would get PTS on temperament.
