Do most people here have a secure off-leash park? Because I know of absolutely none around me... bizarre. But it doesn't bother me letting her off at normal off-lead parks.

Where i live there are no off-leash park's and no dog park's at all, But my parents own a big property so we let the dog's run free there.

Yes...most of our off leash dog parks are fully fenced....just the ones at the beach aren't.
You could google you local council's website....somewhere in there they should have a list of all the parks in the area

I have one not far from me, but it's not fenced so I don't use it. others are a bit too far away.

My dogs are never off lead if they are not at home. But obviously they get to run free in the backyard.

My Borzoi can have a run at the enclosed oval of the local showground if there are no other dogs about because they don't jump fences. My salukis can go over it like it doesn't exist. And it's illegal to have a Greyhound off lead in NSW so my two foster boys miss out too.

Some dogs are not able to be easily trained to recall - especially Sighthounds. My dogs are all basically trained for recall but I would never expect they would come back once they start running - their drive to run is greater than anything. And if they start up a rabbit or bird or cat anything when running they're gone... I don't take them to off lead dog park, they are too big for most people to cope with, and they don't like little dogs running under them and grabbing at their legs. They move so fast for such big dogs thy easily knock people over if they get a fright from a small dog and jump away.

I would rather they run at home than be killed on a road. I saw a dog run over last week - by it's owners who couldn't be bothered to shut the gate when they left home - and it's something I wouldn't wish on any dog. Mine are far too precious.

Aussie - I'll bet that got your heart going full speed! I hope you've recovered!!

Floyd is never off leash when out in public, except when we walk up our little street but only if my OH is with us, Floyd is a good boy & walks besides me...but as soon as i see this certain other dog-i will put Floyd back on lead for he's own protection from the other nasty dog that sometimes escapes from its own yard..... The area that we live in has quiet a few leash free parks that are fenced in & that sure is a releif, the doggies cant get out & run onto roads etc, & the nasty doggies cant get in to attack the good doggies.
