Default Update on today- sick dogs! :(

So. Today has been interesting, especially in showing both the resilience and speed of recovery in dogs, and also their ability to get ill very quickly.

We woke up, to our oldest dog (an 7y/o Dalmatian called Mac) to not having breakfast. The other two dogs were playing and running around, and where Mac would normally join in, he wasn't. Mac is very food focused, and can recognise the sounds of the bread and cheese being opened, and he is quickly at your feet. He only had one corner of toast, and quietly lay in the corner miserably. I gave him a handful of dry food, and he slowly ate it, but ate nonetheless. His gums were very pale, and he had a small drink of water. He spent until midday sleeping, me watching closely for any serious indicators. About 1pm, he perked up, and is the normal, happy Mac we're accostomed to (though his ear is bothersome, he's spent all afternoon trying to scratch it).

About 3pm, or new 3 1/2 month pup (Toby, kelpie X) was sick on the carpet (the joys of pet ownership). I immediately put him outside, and cleaned, sanitized and conditioned the carpet. I went down to see if he was still sick. He was looking miserable. I gave his mouth a quick wash with the hose, wrapped him in a towel, and we had a long cuddle. He looks absolutely exhausted. He is now asleep on the towel, and he is happy to stay there- not even follow me from room to room. Every time I approach him, he looks guilty and appologetic, which means I'm constantly reassuring him that he's okay. He's curled up like a child who's ill, miserable and grumpy, and just wants to get better.

Our other dog, Blythe (3year pure wire coat fox terrier) has a problem shoulder, and what is usually a limp turned into fully carrying her leg, and not putting any pressure on it. She must have landed incorrectly, and was hopping for a good hour. Thankfully, she's fine now.

So. I appologise for the long spiel, but if it weren't for the hard days (like today, and much worse), we wouldn't appreciate the good days we spend with our pets. Let's hope they're all up and running tomorrow.

Hi Em, I am so sorry about your sick dogs I would recommend a trip to the vet.
Hope they are better by today.

They were all good as gold the next day. They must have gotten into something, poor pups.

I'm glad it all cleared up though!

There is something that is causing this. It is not normal.
Agree a vet trip is needed.

I wouldn't be taken them to the vet if they've all recovered now. They must have just eaten something bad and it is now out of their system. Is it possible that they got access to snail bait or something?

The worst puppy chewing thing my dog ever did was chew a AA battery in half. She was very sick from that for about 12 hours and then she was right as rain again.

I wouldn't run to a vet either. But have that 'Sorry dependents, mum's a nurse, you only see a Dr if your dying'. attitude.
If i wouldn't take a small child to a gp for it, i sure wouldn't bother at a vets for similar, as a general rule of thumb.

My GSD has had a tummy bug this week. He's been evacuating both ends sunday. But has stopped now. He's was just starved for 24hrs to flush it out. Free access to water, and knows he's not allowed to puke indoors! Just have to watch other dogs dont eat it, and we're fine

If more than one dog is ill then there has to be something causing it whether a bug or something they have eaten.
