LOL hyacinth, tourists always manage to drown themselves (hang on, that's not funny is it...)

Both my dogs will come in to swimming-depth water when I'm in it, but if not they usually won't go beyond where they can touch. Chasing sticks out is the next best incentive. Both will fully submerge their heads to pick something up off the bottom which I think is pretty cool, but neither seems to remember they can swim until they actually have to, and then they realise that they're actually strong swimmers. Sal's front legs are usually swimming long before she's off the bottom

Well I've found Gracie's new favourite thing...
She didn't really 'swim' like I had imagined but after talking with you all I lowered my expectations haha

She hated the pool, which was funny because she dived into it without a second thought, then regretted it almost immediately
But the beach was an entirely different story. She would come out to a depth she was comfortable with a challenge a few waves before heading back in and doing it all over again
Loved to chase a stick into the shallows as well
When I swam out far enough that she couldn't see me she would freak out and start swimming out to where she thought I was

Here are a few photos that I'm sure I gain more joy out of than you do!

    Freaking out at first...

    Where's dad?!

    She's such a cutie!

And lucky you being able to swim in the ocean this time of the year! Down here the water is freezing cold right now.

    I'm in Queensland
This is a beach on the Sunshine Coast, it's usually a surfing beach but was a very calm day

This thread title doesn't feel right anymore, it should be changed to 'The Self Indulgent Grace Everton Thread'

speaking softly works with shouting humans too. Animals are curious, they want to know what is being said
and hand signals are even quieter lol

    [I]Not self indulgent[I]

.........I think it's just you are on a journey of discovery we relate to. It's these very pleasures that make the pattern of Days with our pooches. Nice to share and the main reason we are on the forum I suspect. Gracie's antics make me smile, either I have been there or am now. She and my Maggie would either love or loathe each other, very similar in temperament I think.

I hope they would love each other!
I'm sure Gracie would do everything in her power to make Maggie chase her in circles, like she does with any thing with a heart beat!

Ah yes the circles, very useful for outrunning over pushy larger, less fit dogs. Only rarely does she meet someone who can out run her. There is a stunning greyhound X that runs in a straight line past us every now and again, I just love to watch and listen to the amazing wshhhhh as it flies past, but it doesn't do the circles.
