Default how much do you spend on dog food

I've just calculated that we spend about $ 50 per week only on dog food for both dogs. Plus another 10 or so for bones/pigears/treats.

That seems quite a lot to me and since our financial situation has become more difficult lately I'm wondering whether there are cheaper ways of feeding the pooches healthily. How much do you guys spend on dog food?

I spend about $100 a week not including biscuits or treats. Scary i know. My dogs get fed once a day and have biscuits always on supply if they want to eat during the day.
They are both large dogs, Kodi is 50kg and my 13 month old puppy Zeus is 70kg's.
They are however both spoilt rotten and get a pretty good variety of food.
As i work for woolies as a butcher i can sometimes pick up meat when it is marked down so this helps a bit.
I mostly shop at a local butcher as he's a lot cheaper.
If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them. ~Phil Pastoret

Abe alone is $50/wk. I've only just sat down and done the math myself as he's on a prescription diet atm and I'm not sure how I'm going to manage either. Sal more like 15, then bones on top. Frightening isn't it. I thought I might give up eating, see if that helps ..

Yes very scary. Our dogs aren't as large (luckily) only 35 and 15 kg... so I guess we can't complain. They're on kibbles (Advance) plus some fresh meat mixed in. I just buy dogmince in woolies plus some hearts and liver and while each bit doesn't cost a lot, it all adds up. Our roo butcher charges about the same for mince - and he isn't really local. A friend is feeding her dog only chicken carcasses. It's a lot cheaper but I'm not so sure if it's really all they need. Plus our freezer isn't really big enough for huge amounts of dead chicken...

I probably spend about $3 a day on mine. Pet mince from the pet shop and a small amount of kibble. And VAN mix, which is about $60 but last me about 6 weeks.

Once every 4-5 weeks I buy a 20kg breeders bag of Advance for $85.00 and then weekly it is anywhere between $10-20... I buy the dodge log roll meat and then meat bones and marrow bones for during the day Maybe one week a month or if I go to the butcher they get pet mince

Have you checked out Buy dog food and pet products online. Australia's favourite dog food delivery service They do bulk bags of different dried foods and have free delivery for recurring orders. We switched from Advance to Canidae because our dogs seemed to be allergic to corn (made them itchy and mental). They might be a bit cheaper on bulk dry food than your vet plus you don't have to go out and get it.

My family monitor Dodge's food so i don't know how much is spent on her. But for Koda, he gets fed supercoat, so i buy a 18kg bag every 3-4 weeks which usually costs somewhere between $30-$50 depending on what sales are on at the time. Otherwise both dogs get regular treats of boiled eggs which come from our chickens and i just buy shmackoes whenever i need them... one packet lasts me a good couple of months because i only use it for training every now and then.
