Default What do you think he is?

Anyone up for a little breed guessing? I'm talking about my Mastiff cross whom some of you will know about. He's 10 months old now and obviously not going to be as big as I (or the vet) originally thought. He was 35 kg last week before he got sick. I know the people who bred him - a couple who owned a dog each when they met and decided they would throw lovely puppies. The man, who owns the bitch, wasn't as keen and has had her desexed since thank goodness, but anyway....

Dad is supposed to be mainly bull mastiff with a touch of english mastiff in him. At 7yrs old and 36kgs I wonder about that, but having no experience with mastiffs I don't know, maybe a bull mastiff can be a smaller dog? Mum is supposed to be mainly bull mastiff with a touch (they reckon they worked it out to about 15%) wolfhound in her. Can't see it personally, but I know that means nothing. She's 40kg, and when I saw her in the back of their ute the other day I found myself thinking that if i had to guess I'd say she looks like she has ridgeback in her. No sign of a ridge though...

And this is Abraham about a month ago and 33.5kg....abe 9 months.jpg

What you guys think? I don't care, I think he's just beautiful, and the softest, sweetest dog I've ever met, but I'm really curious as to some experienced opinions (guesses)

Wow, thats some mix. But that face says Lab to me. He has the muscular structure to be a bull breed, but that face is a labs.

Yup me thinking dad looks like a Labrador x...

    so does the son.

Not sure about mum, can't explain the ears. Ridgeback or mastiff x staffy?

Not all ridgebacks have ridges. Is the source of much angst and controversy among the breeders. Do you keep the genetic diversity - or desex and rehome the ridgeless ones (they used to cull aka drown them).

that ridgeback culling sux, i thought the ridge can also carry a recessive gene that has tumours into the spine? sorry OP nice dog looks like a lot of bull mastiff in there but i haven't a clue, can you make a bigger photo with dog in different postions?

I am thinking lab. That muzzle and ear shape is the lab part for me.

Lab had not occurred to me. I've found a couple of pics from dif angles and as a pup, and my son just took 3 today. Keep in mind he's still got about 3 kgs to recover from his recent illness.

He has very long legs, I'm not so sure about staffie, but lab does make some sense. I reckon he's definitely got mastiff in him, so from now on I'll be calling him a mastiff cross

His colouring is very mastiff from what I've seen of others, much like his father but the old boy has quite a lot of black grizzling around his mane area and had a black mask as a pup. It was the length of dads snout that gave me doubts about him being full mastiff. Abe has darker coloured fur around his neck that continues in a line down the top half of his spine. It's really hard to get a photo of his body cos he wont stop moving, but he's super-lean around the flanks (sorry used to be a horse person - his waist?), like a racehorse. I'll try to get one more with me holding him..

Ok, last of the pics, still not the best unfortunately. Managed to get a couple from the side this morning, and the one from behind you can get an idea of the musculature in his rear end as well as can kind of make out the line of darker colour on his back. I think this is going to be close to his full height (I'm 5'11")

    Nice uggs !!

I can see NZ sheep wool blended with some chinese fake wool in them. The laces are definently aussie x chinese too !!

LOL...i'm stumped here...i hear Bullmastiff and go "yeah'. The i hear Lab...and go "yeah". Ridgeback...well mums face and ears and i go "yeah". English Mastiff "Yeah maybe a touch in the dads face with that longish snout"...
    Lol...no help to you whatsoever.

    So i say he's a Mastador x Ridgemastiff !!!
