    Default Stubborn people

I'm at my wits end with a family at the local dog park, we have a great environment there, everyone gets on, knows each other by names, keeps an eye on their dog, no fights, etc.

This family has a short haired dog and a few months ago they got a very long haired Maltese cross, which is probably about 8 months old. This dog very badly needs a groom/trim, the hair is so long and starting to mat around her eyes, she can't see, her feet are so matted she can't walk, she has to hop everywhere, not to mention a lot more matting throughout her body.

I've spoken to this family numerous times and they refuse to clip this dog because "god made her this way so we're not changing it"... Now, I'm as atheist as they come so this annoys me anyway but how can you change someone's mind when they are so convinced that they can't 'alter' their pet... I guess that means they probably won't desex either... Hope they worm and vaccinate!

I tried explaining to them that they cut and brush their own hair, and the dog is no different but apparently "god gave us the intelligence to alter ourselves, but no other being" or something like that, it's just insanely frustrating!

I'm not sure if the RSPCA will do anything about it as she seems to have all her other needs met but it feels like it is the only option I have left... This dog NEEDS a trim and this man NEEDS a reality check!

oh religious stuff like that cracks me up (no offence to people that believe). Maybe have a chat to the rspca and see what they say. The bigger the matting gets the more pain it will cause the dog and something needs to be done before it gets to bad.

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

I know Jadie! I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a burning rod than listen to some of the whacked out theories (and see the Blues win SOO) This man seems very strange, one of those overly controlling people with a thai wife who barely speaks any English... all seems a bit 'off' to me.

Might bring a pair of scissors to the park and trim it myself while he's not looking

    2. God gave man dominion over all the animals. That mankind was the apex of God's creation is proven by the fact that God placed all the other creatures and the rest of creation under his rule and care.

I bet they get their hair cut! and the men probably shave! Even extreme 'isms' rarely look like John The Baptist fresh out of the desert.
I never object to consistent alternate views but get annoyed by the ones that aren't. Like vegans that wear leather shoes.

Maybe compare the dog to a sheep - if the merinos are not shorn on a regular basis - their coat grows so much it can kill them. God didn't make the coat this way - selective breeding by man did - and so the dog needs to be properly cared for by man. Otherwise - they may as well go get a wolf and let it fend for itself - by eating their children.

I'm a christian, but thats just absolutely ridiculous!
Its people like that, that give us a bad name... really drives me up the wall!

For those who believe, it tells us in the bible that God gave man the role of overseeing and looking after animals

I don't know what religion he 'belongs' to... I just know he believes in a 'god'.

It just infuriates me that his beliefs are affecting the way his poor dog feels... I will try talking to him again next time he comes to the park, and if that doesn't work, I'll see what the RSPCA can do

Religious nuts. What can you do about them? Notice a wolf does not evolve to have shaggy long hair, because their fur is long enough. Could it be that people bred the dog like that for their own amusement, and that God had nothing to do with it? Hmm..
