Default Off to Bali....taking doggy supplies.

Well its decided now....we are off to Bali in August. This time (my 3rd) i'm taking 2 pairs of Boardshorts, 2 shirts, singlet and thongs. The rest of my luggage is going to be stuff that the Bali dogs need. I know from experience that its cheap as chips to buy clothes over there to get me by if i need anything else.

I've found these guys on Facebook . http://www.facebook.com/#!/BaliDogAd...ocation=stream

So i'm going to get in touch with them and a lady who lives near my oldies who apparently has pre packed donations ready to be taken over.

I'm considering hitting up Mojos girlfriend/vet to see if they are willing to donate any sort of antibiotic creams or the likes..apparently they are 0K to take over on a plane.

Does anyone know anything about the organisations in Bali or have any ideas for me with what i could take over. My ears are open.

Sean, If you have a chat to a few of the people who run local rescue shelters they may have a good idea of the supplies, other than food, they regularly need.

    Good job mate.

Great idea and so nice of you to do that! I'm not too sure what you should pack, though I'm sure that they'd be happy with anything! Great idea to see if you can get stuff off the vet, and maybe lots of syringes, gauze, bandages etc.. they always come in handy. Just be careful carrying some things that could be associated with drugs.. like syringes etc... we all know what Bali is like

LOL Kristy...reckon i might be saying hi to Shapelle Corby for helping out some poor old pooch's. Wouldnt that make the news !!

Thanks guys. I was kicking myself last time (about 12 years ago) for not taking anything over so i swore if there was ever a next time i would take whatever i could. Theres a list on that facebook page of stuff they need and a few contacts i'll get in touch with when my flights are booked. I'll update the thread as i get stuff sorted.

Its a pretty cool FB page actually...they help other animals too and are trying to stop pitbull fighting aswell. They sure do need all the help they can get...it's such a poor country.
But if you've been there you'll probably know why i like it so much...

    Excellent - 'Sean' ! What a fantastic idea - plus a holiday also !
But the highlighted part - no undies ?

BARC looks to be a really good organisation and has DGR status in Australia for donations made in Australia - through the Australian office - TAX DEDUCTIBLE DETAILS -

It seems you need a letter from BARC regarding medicines and medical supplies - so do your homework on that one. Also customs could be a concern.

    departing travellers

So - 'Sean' - do you need any help filling up your suitcase for your trip ?

I would love to be able to - declutter my place -sorry - help you with leads, collars, blankets and the like ! Riley does not need all of this stuff - he is only one pup - and a lot is not suitable for him.

    Think about it !

    Thanks Riley !!!

I need to talk to the lady on the Gold Coast about what she already has pre packed...but i'd say a few more bits and pieces would be more than welcome. I'll be in touch soon mate. My guys grew out of thier collars quickly too so i also have a few lying around. I need to round them up and see whats what. Thanks for the kind offer .

LOL..i knew someone would ask about the undies might throw a few pairs of them in too just to be safe !!

I've got no idea. Though usually when I see those dogs - it's the long lasting flea treatments I want to give them. maybe ones that include stuff for mites and mange.

My sister went up with a group from Perth to help teach first aid and basic how to be a life saver stuff to the locals so they could try to stop tourists from drowning. But that didn't have anything to do with dogs.

Sean you are a legend. I visited Bali a few years ago and my heart was broken on a daily basis. I did speak to one of locals regarding the dogs and cats roaming the streets and he was saying that some rescue group(I cant remember the name of it now) was testing the stray dogs and putting red collars(you know the bands life what the hospitals use to write your name on) on the dogs that tested neg to rabies. In the end my hubby steered me away from the shops that had animals in them cause I would end up saying something to the owner(some of whom were really trying to help these poor animals). Even after seeing this I still loved my holiday in bali and would go back in a heart beat. Enjoy your holiday
