    Default Blue Paws

is the story of a first time handler and his German Shepherd in the NSW police dog squad. I wasn't sure I wanted to read it cause I guessed from the start the dog dies somehow and I am still pretty touchy about the subject.

I've read about half the book and have pretty much cried every few pages cause the dog in case - Merlin - does a lot of stuff that Cappy used to do. I have also laughed quite a bit.

I think it is probably a book for real dog lovers and especially GSD people.

Merlin sounded like a special dog and whilst he owner has moved on to another dog - like Cappy - Merlin will never be forgotten.

guy by the name of Matt McCredie. The book is rough and he constantly seems to be trying to justify the police use of force - which I ironically find forced as I quite agree the police need to use force to bring down perps.

Cops - including dog handlers are usually heavily critised by the media about the use of force against offenders. That's what the dogs are there to help with of course, but it becomes second nature to get a little defensive about it.

Most cops end up having better success with using a professional writer to assist them - prevents what they write from coming across in cop language....
