Thread: Dog Breed Books

    Default Dog Breed Books

I was looking at a friends dog breed book and I was surprised by what I read.

It described all small-breed dogs as having gentle personalities.
I find this very untrue as most info I've come across tends to describe Chihuahua's and some other small breeds as protective and having a bold personality.

The dog pictured as the breed standard for a Siberian Husky was way off the AKC standard.
The Husky had bat ears which were too large and too far apart, the eyes were also too far apart and the muzzle was too long.
Could of done with more length in the neck too.

I don't know much about Samoyeds but it sure didn't look like the one's I've seen either.

It is all so wrong, I wouldn't pay any attention to what has been written, and people actually pay for these?

Its surprisingly common in dog breed books :/
i've seen so many with very incorrect info and photos!
there is one good dog breed book that i have found, it has almost every dog breed i can think of and all the info is incredibly accurate (from what i've read)
at the moment i dont remember the name of it... its something along the lines of 'the complete guide to dog breeds' and it has a malamute on the front...

I tried looking up the book you mentioned though I can't seem to find it, I will however look for a few dog breed books that I have hiding somewhere.

    It didn't even mention bi-eyes or parti-eyes.
    Only brown and blue.

I get pretty passionate when it comes to myths surrounding dogs.
I've had so many people tell me that Rafeal is going to be huge who have mistaken a Malamute for a husky as well as comment on having a double coated dog in a hot climate. They don't realize it actually protects them from the heat as well.

I'm exactly the same! I cant stand it when people who are uneducated about dogs try to tell me something about my dog that is actually completely in-correct! it just drives me insane! :/

Unfortunately now with things like Amazon and Kindle publishing a book has never been easier. I go for the open and browse option before buying test
