I could be totally wrong, but I see some Belgian shepherd in there? Maybe Groenendael? (I'm from Belgium originally. Not that it matters.)

That's funny, he was listed as a Belgian Shepherd mix when I got him. I mean who knows, but its cool to get opinions. thank you!

Yes I agree with the Groenendael potentially in the mix. I dont think kelpies are as numerous in the states as they are here, but he still has a kelpie look to him, although a Groenendael mixed with a smaller dog good possibly give a similar look.

Kelpies have very unique eye set and head shapes, also ear shape/size. He has some kelpie traits but he looks very shepherd to me particularly in the head. Groenendal crosses tend to throw dogs with some longer hair, he has none at all. There is such a supposed thing as a black Malinois, they're basically unregistered dutchie x Mal throw backs. His coat is short enough to be that type of Belgian mix but I don't think he's straight 50% belgian mix to be honest. Saying that depends what the father was :P But it would explain the colour of the eyes and that straight black with white chest he has, and Belgians are also on the go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the time and like velcro, very smart ... I should know I have 4 lol

Doesn't look like a Kelpie to me, head and body shape seem different (in those photos at least). That said, I would be extremely surprised if a DNA test didn't reveal some GSD in him. Shepherds vary greatly by temperament - we have people bring show line or byb GSD's to Schutzhund training sometimes and you would think they're different breeds so maybe he just has a different kind of shepherd in him...

Very handsome chap indeed my 2 cents worth he looks like one parent was a x black butt kelpie/ border collie ( the colouring, head & ears suggest this) & the other parent had Aust. cattle x. I'll put a pic of my ACD ( Doza ) & my now departed Black Butt x Doberman? (Jess)
