Thread: Rescue Dog

    Question Rescue Dog

I've been considering getting a rescue dog, however, I live I the bush a fair way from any rescue organisations. Could someone tell me how one goes about getting a dog from a far away place without the benefit of a meet and greet first. And how are the dogs transported?

I think you are going to have to do the traveling yourself. It makes more sense for you to travel to town than for someone to travel to you with one of more dogs with no guarantee that you'll adopt.

I live in a city, but I still traveled 700kms to meet my dog. I did take her home straight away.

Have a browse of PetRescue - Inspired by unconditional love - PetRescue for dogs in your area. Make a shortlist, contact the carers or rescue orgs and then plan a trip to meet them all in one day.

If you don't want to decide on the spot, or if they won't allow you to take the dog home straight away, they may be able to organise transport, but if it's very remote it may take a while.

There are usually rescue orgs in rural areas too though, as there is often a need for them. They tend to run regular transports between their area and one or more nearby towns. Which area do you live in?

And congrats on your decision! I'm up to my second rescue dog and I've never regretted it.

    Thanks Beloz!

I have had a rescue dog before and have also taken many dogs and re homed over the years. The first dog I had from the pound was one of the best dogs ever ... There were a lot of tears when she went

I already have two toy poodles who are delightful little characters but I would love to get a medium sized jogging/riding buddy. So I would require a dog who could get along with the princesses

And yes I do look at pet rescue often. The right dog will no doubt appear one day in my vicinity.

Hi 'ranga' and welcome ! Your two pups look very cute and spoilt (?) !

Find some rescues in your area, as has been suggested previously, put your name down, fill out the necessary paperwork and see what happens.

Rescues tend to not want to send rescues too far away - because of the two week trial period and the support they give, and also if they are dealing with someone they have not come across before.

So, if you are able to travel to a rescue group or pound - then that would be better.

Just thought that I would mention this - just for example - if I wanted to rescue a dog from Victoria and I live in another state - then the transport of the dog to me would be at my expense - not the rescue group.

    Happy Hunting !

    Thanks RileyJ

Yes, they are very spoilt! The cafe latte one was actually re homed to us, so we are very lucky, as she fits in with us perfectly!
