i want a breeder to NOT want me as an owner - I want them to be suspicious and to check me out thoroughly. That way I know they give a crap about their dogs

Please dont get me wrong, I am 100% in support of using registered breeders. My question arose from looking online at breeders and breed websites, then looking at the puppy available listings. I'm a fan of Mastiffs and Boxers, and there was not a lot available. By trolling on Trading Post it was not hard to find some Boxer pups.

We have three children. They have all been brought up on the fact that No means NO! But there are some parents of children out there who do cave to their children at a whim, or it may even be a case of a child being promised a puppy for a birthday/xmas present.

I am not having a bash at anybody, just making an observation on a current situation.

The pet shop around the corner was selling pups for $150 for a variety of breeds That made us both cringe, but not everybody thinks like all of us on this forum.

This is what I was trying to stress.
To us,it seems so cut and dry, absolutely no doubt as to the right and wrong aspects of this industry. But there are those that just have no idea.

But your average family don't. They don't understand why they would be treated like that. Rescue groups can and do come across the same. WE know that it's out of concerns for the dog and probably based on past bad experiences, but people not involved in this part of society don't realise that - they just think breeders or rescuers are being rude or hostile, and being nosy and supercilious.

Consider a house check. This is a big invasion to some people, who think that they are probably adults and should be treated as such. I don't want strangers coming to my house and telling me how to care for my dogs, etc etc. If I got breeder or rescuer advice about what a dog needs, I wouldn't think it appropriate that the advisor came around just to check up on whether I did things to their standard...

Much as no-one wants an animal to go without or be treated less than perfecty - people should not be treated as guilty until proven innocent. Nobody likes this, and it's not acceptable in society in general. So folks do take the easier option - a pet shop or giveaway puppy comes with much less stress...

Me and my OH were thinking to conduct a little experiment persay .
Where I wrote up some very simple , some multiple choice in some instances , type of questionare to hand amongst the guys he works with and their friends.
All just your average ,everyday working class family men,but certainly none that I could think of off hand that I would see as not suitable homes for a dog.
But these are people that would not know what BYB meant etc...
I will start another thread for this so as not to deduct from this though as I want to invite others inputs and suggestions for questions.
