Angry Bite the hand that saves you.....

So i go out this arvo to get some timber from bunnings.......sun is shinning....all is good in life.

Get home to find......tap running, water everywhere..grrrr

Then i see the wifes decided to change my daughters room around is breaking up her old 'Dora the explorer' bed that could have been sold or given away to someone.... huh....... Grrrr again !!!

THEN I LOOK AT MOJO AND HE'S CHOKING ON A BONE !!!

So i grab him....he's freaking out at this stage and i'm not much better.......stick my hand down his throat and i can feel it way back.....but i cant hold it to pull it out.......Then....CHOMP !! right on my hand........the pain hadnt set in yet so i went in again while having to try and hold him and believe me he's bloody strong. I can only just touch it and with all his fighting me all i achieve is to actually push it back. But luckily it's gone right down and he's stopped choking. Phew...

He's scared of me at this stage and the pain in my hand is settling in just nicely....bit of blood and some nice bruising....great.
I watch him like a hawk for the next 20 minutes. He seemed fine....but did throw up a heap of saliva.
I got the hose out to wash it away and he's back to his usuall mad dog self chasing the hose everywhere.......thats gotta be a good thing.

So within 2 minutes of been home i had to deal with all this crap............i wasnt impressed one bit. The wife might start talking to me later....i let her know how impressed i was.

...oh well, at least my dog is alive. Might have been a diffrent story if i was home a few minutes later.
All bones bar the real big marrow or similar bones are now banned at our house....and only i feed him......no one else. Scared the crap out of me and the dog !!
The hand is killing me now....should be fun at work tomorrow.
Could have been worse i guess.

Sounds like an eventfull arvo Sean lol, glad to hear you got the bone cleared. Might be a good plan to see a doc today/tomorrow and get some antibiotics, dog bites often leave bacteria that cause infection(give it a good wash with detol and apply some betadiene(sp?).

Thanks guys......i've chilled out now and dedicated the rest of the day to Scotch and rugby league..LOL.

The hand copped some detol....she should be right...hopefully......it was more crushed than pierced.....hurts like buggery but the scotch should sort that out soon.
LOL at the sponge B.D......been there done that...it sux hey ?!!

Just be wary of those small bones guys......they are nasty little things that can cause a bit of grief as i found out today.

Oh Geeze, when you have something happen, you really make sure it's a doozy, eh?

First though, so glad Mojo is OK now.

The following is the method I use for administering first aid to me and my family:

Clean up that hand, get it under running water and clean thouroughly to flush it first - no matter what you've already done for it. [How long since you've had your Tetanus protection updated? Think about it, because it's important to have it when dealing with dogs and bones, whether they bite you or not. If it's not up to date, get to your local emergency and get it done today.]

Next, anti-inflamatories for the swelling, as well as arm and cold packs (warm for bruising, cold for swelling) to ease the pain, and some basic panadol for pain relief. (My favourite combination is 2 Voltaren, 2 Panadol - works like a charm {for me}) Then, check out the wound itself. Is it just grazing to the skin, or is there tearing/splitting/punture marks? Has the bleeding stopped by itself? If so, rewash with a saline solution, then I apply honey. Yes, honey. When you're in a 'make-do' situation, ANY honey works {except the creamed stuff, it's just too messy, and has additives} - it is the only food in the world that doesn't spoil, because nothing can live in it, including bacteria. The menuka community wants you to buy their "special" honey... but the stuff you put on your toast is just as good. Finally, wrap in gauze (honey is sticky), then a light bandage to protect the gauze.

Important - keep flexing your fingers. Yes, it's going to hurt like buggery, but do it. Touch your thumb tip to each finger digit tip (takes practice), backwards and forwards, 10 repeats. Do that every half hour. (It's actually really great to do this if you work with your hands just to keep your dexterity up - helps to stop them from aching, expecially in winter)

Keep the pain relief going for as long as you need it, and rewash the wound night and morning in saline solution (get from chemist) and redress with honey and gauze. For work, depending on how big your gashes are, you could just opt for the mega band-aids, or sport tape over the gauze instead of a badage - more durable.

Keep the honey treatment going even after the scabs form - the honey will keep them moist and soft, and help prevent scarring. They don't use honey in burn units just for the nice smell!

Now, about Dora's bed - well, chalk that up as a loss. Mojo was a win. So today, you're even, and that's not a bad place to be.

Great tips Pinkest....you'd be a great mum i bet !!!

It's not to bad to be honest...just one puncture on the thumb, the rest are just grazes. The bleeding stopped by its self too. It more the pain of a crush which is getting better already. Just hurts when i move it now.....but i know if i dont use it , it'll get sorer when i do so i've been moving the fingys around a fair bit. Thumb hurts the worse...LOL...i'm sounding like a big wuss here !!

Tetnus needle ???...god only knows....i have erased the experience of my last one from my mind. I hate them that much. I dont do needles unless it's life or death !!!LOL...
I had a operation on my back about 3 years ago now....i would assume they would have given me one then....lord knows they jabbed me with everything they could find every few hours, so i should be OK. It's seven years for tetnus needles isnt it ??
Thanks for the concern and great advice though....i'll remember that info if my kids ever need somthing like that !
Yep, your right !!...the Dora bed is long gone now...not much i can do about that....but what i can do is pat and play with my Mojo...far more important than a stupid kids bed.
