Default Pet's Paradise in receivership - Hip Hip Hooray!

Finally, Gary Diamond may start to get what's coming to him with the PP non-franchised chain of stores placed into liquidation by the Bank of Melbourne.

I do feel a twinge of remorse for the 170 staff whose jobs are now {hopefully} at serious risk... but I feel a whole hell of a lot better that this may indeed spell the end for retail puppy and kitten sales.

The independant fanchise-owned stores aren't affected though...

So the independent ones are not effected ?
That sucks because the one here near me
at christmas time she had 42 Ragdoll kittens at $795
each that sold in like 3 weeks..
I was talking to the breeder (unregistered of course)
and she is the regular supplier for the entire Brisbane
She sells them for $350 each...
People like her need to be shot including the pet store owner.

Franchises are owned independantly, so no, unfortunately they won't be affected.

We can hope that this will raise some very bad publicity for the brand though, and rub off on them...

Oh hopefully a lot of shops will close.

I've just watched RSPCA animal rescue and the Queensland RSPCA have rescued 250 dogs from a puppy farm, I've been watching (probably a first for me to sit through something like this) but I'm crying my eyes out... One dog was born with no eyes ... Hope these bastards can be prosecuted (or shot)...

ITs coming, i can feel it. the banning of selling pups/kittens from pet stores!
    about bloody time, its 2012!

    Get with it Australia!

Im glad this has happened. I dont feel sorry for the employees. If they havent voted with their feet by now, their conscious is not coming to the rescue. So karma police step in - redundant. Sorted.

i do feel for the workers....... they are the ones who are being told what to do, they have no control over what the store sells.... its tough out there to try and find a job..... i know when my last company went into administration we all lost alot of money......... think someone in the 6 digits....... i had no control over the companies finances, but we copped the brunt of it.....so its not a good thing for the staff....... but as a whole its probably better....

That's what I think too Reyzor, but to be honest, in this instance I think the needs of the many {puppies and kittens} outweighs the needs of the few {staff}.

This current economic climate isn't great, and I am concerned that staff won't get their entitlements, BUT I'm a whole load more happy that this IS going to have impact on retail animal sales... finally.

I don't feel particularily sorry for the workers. They know what kind of business it is. Personally there's a few jobs I don't think I could ever do - like clubbing seals and torturing dogs.
