Place the dogs bowl in a shallow baowl of water or sprinkle baby powder down and then place the bowl on top

Try putting the food bowl inside another slightly bigger bowl and pour in a little water so the food bowl is surrounded by a 'moat'. The ants wont cross the water.

Edit..........Beat me to it Lea !!!

I agree with the above ideas and also dont leave food out - give your dog a certain amount of time to eat then take up the food bowl, ants cant eat whats not there!

Yep, I third the moat idea, ants can't get to your dog's food if its surrounded by water.

I'm the same as Newfsie, I dislike free feeding, my dogs bowls are put down for a maximum of 15 minutes and then picked up.

Did you not see those bejing olympic snacks. Ants are nutritious!
    and free

so my suggestion is consider them a condiment or pick up your lazy dogs food after 10 mins. The moat suggestion would work, but having water + food would mean my dog wouldn't eat, he'd play as a preference in the puddle.

Why not just wash the bowl after it's been eaten out of and keep it away from the feeding area - like where the dry food is kept?

My two's food doesn't last long enough to have to worry about ants. I agree with removing the food after a certain time if not eaten.
