    Question Licking Stitches....>.<

Boss was neutered & had his dew claws removed a few days ago. We went back to the Vet today & they took off his bandages. Since then he will NOT stop licking his stitches!!
He had an Elizabethan collar (it's huge & he can't even fit through the door wearing it), he somehow managed to get it off & destroy it...
I've tried socks cut off at the ends with bandage tape to hold them on.. The bandage tape is still there but the socks are in pieces. I've been trying to distract him every time he licks them but at some stage i need to goto bed lol!

    Any suggestions would be great!!

I think your only real option is to get another one. The vet nurse told me to drill little holes in it and use zip ties to hold it on. It worked a treat and was bulletproof after that.
Hope he's doing OK and didnt rip them out last night !!

So far he hasn't ripped them out. I will go and get another one today. This one had his collar threaded through it so it was supposed to be secure but he managed to get the collar off as well >.<
Will make another trip to the vet & try again with zip ties lol!

You might try annointing the wounds with aloe vera - direct from the cactus. It's quite bitter. Even my dog didn't want to lick it more than once.

Don't let your dog eat lots of it though - in large quantities it's not good for them. And it would be easier to use the collar of shame.

There are these alternatives to the regular plastic thing. I would supervise my dog wearing it with lots of treats for being well behaved... Rather than stick it on and walk away - cos that's when it gets eaten.

He's only unsupervised for about 30 minutes a day when i go to get my son from school, the rest of the time he doesn't leave my sight. It was in those 30 minutes he managed to destroy it lol!!!
I've put some socks on him & the vet recommended bitter apple spray which is working great
Here's a picture of him with his new socks on.
