    Default Purebred? American Staffy.

This is my 8 week old American Staffy pup.
Do you think she is pure? The lady only showed me a photo of her blue american staffy bitch and not a photo of who is meant to be the father.
My uncle keeps telling me that she cant be a purebred

It's hard to tell at such a young age. Why does your uncle think she isnt?

There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

If you dont have papers to prove she is pedigree I would probably say she isnt

    She sure is cute though

Very very cute!! But sounds like she is hiding something, because you are within your rights to view the parents, and most breeders even offer for you to view them.

    Hi TiaMaira

She's either not pedigree or you have an unethical breeder. She's still gorgeous little puppy.

The sole keeper of records of pedigree (pure bred) dogs in Australia is the ANKC
    Australian National Kennel Council

Their code of ethics requires all their registered breeders - register all the puppies either "main" (breeding standard) or "limited" (not ok for breeding). So you would get ANKC papers if she was pedigree and bred by an ethical breeder.

Otherwise - we really can't tell by looking what she is. You won't be able to enter her in any ANKC breed shows unless your breeder can supply you with the registration papers.

Is she microchipped? In QLD all puppies or dogs sold or given away must be microchipped - if not - report to your local council. Did you get the microchip papers in your name? Otherwise if she gets lost she will be returned to the breeder not you.

This post has some interesting brochures on why you should not judge a dog by appearance alone.

Does she have papers? If so you have a right to see both parents so go back and ask and if she says you cant, keep the pup but ask for your money back. Well a puppy is for life so you cant give it back.

    Yes and no.

If TM has an email discussion saying she'd like to show her new puppy and they sold her one without papers, she's with in her Australian consumer rights to return puppy for a full refund as not fit for the purpose she bought it. If she paid with a credit card - she can write to them for a refund. A responsible breeder will also take back a puppy if the buyer doesn't like it or can't keep it - there may or may not be a refund in this case but it's better than dumping the puppy at a shelter or pound.

I don't think TM got her puppy from a responsible breeder though. I can't imagine that breeder would be willing to take the puppy back or refund the money.

Very cute pup, you wont know if she's purebred or not until she is a bit older...enjoy your new puppy...
