Thread: Is it ok to go for walks while it's raining?

  1. #1

Question Is it ok to go for walks while it's raining?

Since the weather is going to be miserable for a while here now, I'm wondering if it is ok to walk your dog in the rain??
Boss really needs his walks or he gets the crazies before bed time. If it is ok, should i get him a raincoat??
He's a inside dog 99% of the time so he wouldn't be coming home & heading outside in the cold, he would be on his couch in front of the heater.

Um he is a dog,lol he has a lovely coat to keep him warm but you could get him another one to put over him if you so desire. I think going for a walk in the rain wouldn't hurt him, because like you say, he would get to snuggle up on his couch....the thing is, would you take him? If you re happy to, take him.

If he's a short coat dog with no undercoat - I'd consider getting him a rain coat or he may get cold.

If you're walking fast enough - he probably won't get cold but will when he get home if you don't dry him off.

I tried to get a rain coat for Frosty but she didn't like wearing one, so it was hard to work out what fit. I'd need to train her to be happy with something on her back like that - though she's happy to wander around the house with bits of bedding rugs over the top of her.

We mostly don't go for walks in the rain - cos I don't like it much but there's no reason not to - as long as you take extra care with your footing and assume that traffic will not be able to stop for you or avoid you and are guaranteed to spray any nearby puddles at you.

I love walking in the rain :P Just thought dogs were more sensitive to the cold than us, now that i think about it was probably a stupid question...

I don't see any problem if you get him a rain coat. My last dog used to stand out in the rain barking at it. Rosie is 9 weeks old and she comes in the shower (we have a shower curtain and she walked right in the first day we got her, now the door is closed to the bathroom )

    Enjoy your walks..............

I have to walk rexy - rain hail or shine otherwise he goes bananas. He has a long coat so we dont bother with a rainjacket unless its super freezing. Its important to dry your pooch off when u get home though. The blowdryer plays a bigger part in my dogs grooming than my own lol

I walk my dog in the rain. She can be a bit reluctant at first, but once we're walking she enjoys it. I might get a rain coat just to save myself time having to dry her when we get home. She has a double coat and stays wet for ages.

My previous dog had a really thin coat of her own and hated the rain, so I just didn't walk her when it rained.

We walk rain or shine ( not hail) she woould rather be wet than home any day.
A warm rub essential at the end but she runs so much she wouldn't be cold ( I often am!)
Now she enjys the rubs, when she was younger she was busy trying to wriggle and chew at the same time.

Is it ok to go for walks while it is raining? No. It isn't. If you suffer the disorder of rainyitis as I do you will melt when rained upon.
Rainyitis is very closely associated with bullshititis.
