Default German Shorthaired Pointer Puppies in Melbourne?

Hey guys, I've been looking at getting a gsp for about a year now, and me and my wife are finally prepared and ready to adopt a puppy, and the ones we have been keeping an eye on are no longer listed or have all been sold.
does anybody know of a reputable breeder in or near Melbourne that has GSP puppies available?
we are willing to travel a couple of hours to get to one.
we are after a male, preferably liver and less than 6 months old.
He will be a family pet and rabbit hunting dog.
    Thanks everyone

The German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Vic. Inc.

get a hold of the puppy person and they can give you a list of breeders with pups available to suit your lifestyle and activity level.

Make sure the parents have been health tested properly, I have seen some sick little GSPs poorly bred one being euthanised at only a few months old due to a severe heart condition. BYB dog, no recourse.

Have you been going out and meeting GSP breeders and their dogs for about a year now? It takes about a year to get a litter ready for rehoming and by then I'd hope the breeder would have buyers lined up for all the puppies.

Sometimes you get lucky because a sale falls through for various reasons so when you decide what breed you want, that's when to go and meet the breeders and talk to them, find out which dogs you like, find out who is planning a litter and get your name put down for one of theirs or to be contacted when the puppies are born - because various breeders have different ways of organising homes for their puppies.

A lot of buyers disappear between when they first put their names down and when the puppies are born, because their circumstances change or they find a puppy elsewhere and don't tell the other breeders they had their names with. So breeders try different ways of managing this. Breeders also talk to each other so if you treat them well and they don't have a puppy for you, they may be able to recommend someone else who does. Conversely if you're rude and impatient with them - they may recommend their friends avoid homing a puppy with you, because new puppy owners need to be very patient.

This is a good article on what the best breeders are looking for in the best homes for their puppies.

The club will have good contacts and may also know of some older puppies or dogs in GSP "rescue" that might also suit you.

The other club you should consider joining is the local Gun Dog Club
as puppies are not born comfortable with having guns go off near them and it's something you need to train.

You might find some GSP breeders that belong to both clubs. Those would be ideal people for you to meet.

If you are on facebook then join this group :-

    GSP Lovers Australia.
You will find a few Breeders within the group and 400 members Aus wide.

They have social meets at least once a month in various parks around
Melbourne/Vic. that I would love to go to but I am too far away.
Someone had pups recently but possibly none available any more.

    You're welcome Z.

You are so lucky to live in Melbourne, many great Dog Groups get together every weekend.
